As a member of Pi Beta Phi at the University of Iowa, it is clear when bad news strikes one chapter of the Greek Community, it has a large impact on them all. When I began my first year of college, the members of the Sigma Nu Fraternity showed me what true friendship means. It is obvious they deeply care about one another and are willing to do anything for each other no matter the circumstance. After hearing about what happened to two of their members over winter break, it was truly amazing to witness how they came together to help their friends and brothers.
Two Sigma Nu members, Rodric Jackson and Andrew Mogni, are the brothers of the Sigma Nu chapter that need our help. Rodric Jackson was diagnosed with a stage 3 brain tumor and Andrew Mogni suffered critical injuries and has been in a coma after falling over a 40 ft. wall in Rome. I have had the pleasure of getting to know both members and I can honestly say they have brought immense joy and positive energy into the Sigma Nu house. It is clear how much their friends and brothers are missing them every single day.
Sophomore Nick Cerutti stated, “They are constantly in our hearts, thoughts, and prayers. It is amazing to have Mogni back in the US where he is receiving much better medical care and to see Rodric constantly progressing in his therapy." It has been a long journey for both of them, and every member of your house has and will be standing right next to them for the rest of it!
When speaking about Andrew Mogni, friend and roommate Danny Mohler said, "Living with Andrew last semester gave me a vivid understanding of the type of man he is, yet makes it difficult to pinpoint a single memory of him. His overall understanding and respect for others made for an easygoing semester, with Pat Walsh and Andrew Roberts as our other roommates. We were the Quad Squad, and that was an allegiance not conceivable without the love and loyalty of Mogni. It is because of this bond shared that gives us the tenacity and the drive to be a contributing part of his recovery. All of our love and prayers go out to Andrew and his family, and we long for the return of 'The American Gladiator.'"
(The American Gladiator is what the doctors in Italy were calling Andrew because of his strength, and his ability to push towards recovery.)
Their philanthropy, “Kickin' It For a Cure" will be held this year on Saturday, April 11th. The event will be held from 12-3 p.m. and the money raised will go directly toward the boys and their families. Sigma Nu will also be holding a pre-event at Buffalo Wild Wings on April 7th.
The boys also sold bracelets and jersey that say “Pray For Mogni and “Pray For Rodric" along with a large banner outside of their house on campus.
When asked about the situation Sophomore John Hardek responded, “We have a high morale as a group. We appreciate all the support from the community and University. We hope to hear Andrews singing and Rodric's laugh in our chapter house again very soon. Please keep them in your prayers. “
