The response you get when you tell someone that you are a student at The University of Alabama can sometimes be surprising. Of course, they vary depending on where you’re from but in my experience, it was always something along the lines of “oh, what’s your major? Football?” or “oh, I’m happy for you but I don’t like that school.” I get it, you don’t like us. But you not liking us, makes us love UA even more.

Now there are many reasons that schools all over the country hate us, but here are some of the best ones.

Greek Life

Greek life at The University of Alabama is more. It’s bigger, it’s better and it’s stronger than greek life anywhere else. Our houses look like something out of a movie and the programs that all the different sororities and fraternities put on surpass anything that we have ever seen before.

The reason we accomplish so much is because we set our standards so high and we appreciate that schools across the country can take the time out of their days to envy our accomplishments.

Academics

It’s no secret that The University of Alabama has incredible academic programs. Everything from the Top 5 Public Relations Department in the country to having a Forbes recognized business school, all the way to being one of the only universities in the country to offer metallurgical engineering.

We know we have a lot to be proud of and we thank all the other schools in the country for taking the time to recognize our success so much that they can’t help but hate us for it.

Our Football Team

The most dominant and obvious reason that all other universities in the country wish they were us is our football team. A target of hate from everyone from the Big 10 to the Big 12. But we understand. A program that has won 17 National Championships, more than 20 conference championships and an all-time record of 891–327–43 has plenty of things to despise. But we don’t let that negative energy tear us down.

We thrive off it. The Crimson Tide football program is what it is because of all the hate we generate. We play tough because the country talks tough and we refuse to be anything but the best.

The University of Alabama has a long history of success. Our success is built on our drive to be the best. So thank you. Thank you to all the schools out there who sit and wait for our downfall. Thank you to the schools who just want to see us fail. Thank you to the schools who scoff at the sound of our name. We are the way we are because of you, we strive for greatness for you. We love that you hate us because your hate makes us stronger.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
