Whether you have been here a semester or you are working on your sixth year, there are some things about UWG that everyone who goes here knows. These aren't things they tell you when you get the introduction packet; they are things you have just learned along the way. So I have compiled a list of things that I think everyone here knows, and If you didn't well now you do.
1. Parking is a Battlefield
Not matter, what you have to deal with parking eventually. From dorms, where you pray to get a 20 minute spot, or risk parking illegally; to commuters who circle endlessly around the lots to get a good space. If you go here you know parking is sometimes a battle.
2. It's Quicker To Walk Across Campus
If you have ever been in a hurry to get somewhere, you know not to count on the bus. You get to the bus stop, start waiting, and before you know it 10 minutes has gone by. Then you realize that you would have been at your destination already if you had just walked, but you don't leave the bus stop because you think "the bus is going get here the second I leave".
3. The Ghost of Kathy Cashen
During Orientation you probably heard about the ghost of Kathy Cashen, the teacher who passed away and now haunts the Humanities Building. People say if you go in there at night alone lights will flicker on and off, and the elevator door will open and close on it's own. This could just be an electrical problem but a ghost is much more interesting. Who knows, it might really just be this guy.
4. Townsend Center?
Oh you mean the place you go to get Music or Theater Appreciation Credit? Yes! If you haven't already you should check it out some of the shows they put on, they are pretty good.
5. Attendance is Mandatory
There's always that class you hate, and it always seems to be the one with the strict attendance policy. Sometimes you get lucky and have a teacher who doesn't take attendance. Most teachers at least have a three day absence policy.
6. Walking around campus you will always run into someone you know
Weather you love it or you hate it, it will happen and you always seem to be running late when it does. Then you end up talking to them like, "Oh, Hey! I haven't seen you in forever, but I'm late for my 12:30 see you later...Bye!"
7.You have classes in like four buildings.
We have a lot of buildings, where classes are held, but we have a lot of random ones too. Have you ever been to the front of campus, or Watson? Truthfully if someone asked you where Adamson hall was you would have to pull out a map, or at least I would.
8. Halfway through the semester things get real
You start out the semester thinking that all of your classes are going to be an easy A, and then you hit midterms feeling like you just got hit by a truck. Luckily though, you know that you are halfway there!
9. Wolfie is the best
You might have started out thinking you will never make the wolf sign and have any school spirit, but now you can't help but take a picture and make a wolf sign anytime you see one.
10. Even if this isn't your final stop, you are thankful you Went West
West Georgia is a great school. It might not be the most prestigious, but we have a lot of great things here. A fantastic nursing program, a great honors college, and some pretty great people. Even if you are transferring, or you have been here from start to finish you are thankful to have gotten the opportunity to "Go West."
11. Bonus!
You don't remember any of those cheers you had to learn during orientation.
