After the hassle I endured this year attempting to get a Universal Knights ticket, I'm starting to think it's not worth the trouble.
I mean it could be worth it for someone who has never been to Universal. But honestly, I have been to Universal and Islands of Adventure way too many times that I don't mind if I don't go.
But, a free ticket? Why not.
Am I right?
So, I wasn't able to make it the first week of distribution due to being out of the country, but the day I came back was the last day to get a ticket. So, I decided to get in line an hour before the scheduled time. The line was pretty long at 11 a.m., but not too long that I wouldn't get a ticket. There were only like 300 to 400 people ahead of me in line and they usually give out thousands of tickets each distribution time. So, I thought I was solid.
Then for some reason, the line had to be moved due to the blocking of the offices in Ferrell Commons.
So, the whole line moved to the open courtyard of Apollo.
The line had wrapped around the loop and back around again. Which means that the front of the line was next to the back of the line without anyone guarding or ropes blocking it off.
I wait in line until 1:00 p.m. when they announce that they only have 500 tickets left to hand out. Looking around I see that I still have half the loop to go in order to reach the front of the line. In my head, I calculate how many people are in front of me and judge about 400 people which makes no sense that I have been standing in line for two hours now and haven't moved up at all.
Around 1:30 p.m., they announce that they are sold out and there still like 100 people ahead of me.
I walk up to the front to find out exactly why. I had been standing in line for two and a half hours and came before the time of distribution and still didn't get a ticket.
I asked one of the members of SGA how many tickets they gave out in total for the day. The answer I received was 3,000. I asked if that included the online pre-orders too, the answer was no.
So, somehow 2,700 people got in front of me and got tickets. Since the line had moved and was formed in such a way by Apollo, people easily jumped lines.
Now I just want to say, I'm not mad that I'm not going to Universal Knights, I'm just mad at the fact that I waited in line for over two hours and came early just to have the line get out of hand and SGA not control the situation properly.
They should've have had SGA members stand outside to control the line or organize a better line direction before the line forms.
Thank you for listening to my rant session! Hope you enjoyed it if you went, especially if you were someone who cut the line.
