6 Steps To Help You Prepare For UCF’s Most Esteemed Event, Universal Knights

Universal Knights is a unique opportunity for UCF students and should be enjoyed just as much as we all enjoyed Gradbash. Follow this guide to prepare for a fun night with friends.

Step 1: Have A Plan

Research where you want to go first. Survey your party and vote on which ride you all want to go on before the night ends. I suggest tackling the most popular attractions at the beginning your experience to avoid long lines. After all, thousands of UCF students will fill the park starting at 4:00 p.m.

Step 2: Pack Supplies

The last thing you want to do is to have to pay four dollars for gross purified water just because you are thirsty after walking for hours. Yes, this really happened to me so take this warning and bring your own water instead of buying it in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Pack a few water bottles in a small backpack or bag. Also, be sure to bring a portable phone charger, extra cash, snacks, and Band-Aids just in case you haven’t quite broken in those shoes you’re wearing.

Step 3: Download Apps

For some rides, there will always be long lines. Get the Universal Orlando Resort app to see the wait times for each attraction and hours of operation for restaurants. To help make the time fly a little faster, download some fun apps to keep you and your friends entertained while waiting. My personal favorite is Heads Up – a charades game where you can choose the categories. QuizUp is a similar trivia game that you can play with a group. Of course, when your battery runs low and needs charging there is always the old-fashioned fun of conversation.

Step 4: Don't Go Hungry

If you want to save a few bucks, eat somewhere else before arriving at the theme park. Islands of Adventure has a good variety of dining options. From traditional park fare to Harry Potter themed eats, there is a place for everyone. The Three Broomsticks offers British food and a healthier and savory choice compared to the multiple restaurants with chicken tenders and fries on their menu. Since this event runs until 2:00 a.m., I recommend heading over to City Walk’s Toothsome Chocolate Emporium, a steampunk-themed restaurant with an emphasis on chocolate. They are famous for their milkshakes of a variety of flavors from Bacon Ice Cream to Key Lime Pie. You’ll likely be tired and in need of a pick-me-up if you decide to stay for the entire time. Order the Espresso Buzz and feel your energy returning.

Step 5: Take Pictures

Take plenty of pictures to remember the night! Make memories and post them to social media and tag your friends. Universal Knights is a very photogenic event. This is the perfect experience to remember forever as your college years are limited and widely known to be the best times of your life so, document it with photos.

Step 6: No Matter What, Enjoy Yourself

Hang out with friends and persuade them to ride a roller coaster or explore the Wizarding World with a fellow Potterhead. Whatever you choose, have fun at Universal Knights!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
