The United States Tax System Promotes Unemployment

It pays more to be unemployed than it does to work for a living.

I have grown up during an era that historians like to dub the "parties at war era". This is a completely valid statement from my point of view because Republicans and Democrats have a very difficult time seeing eye to eye on any issue. I will try to keep an open mind whenever I am having a political conversation. I will ask questions, and hear the other person out. However, as a Republican, I have a difficult time, seeing validity to the thought process of democrats when it comes to our taxes.

Their idea is that the upper 1% pays a higher percentage of taxes because they make more money, while the middle and lower classes don't pay as much or any at all because they are not able to afford it. If this is actually how the system worked out it wouldn't be that bad of a plan, but the issue here is, the democrat's system promotes unemployment.

I am 20 years old, and work two jobs while going to school. While I am fortunate in being able to go to college where many do not have that opportunity, I am definite not in that 1% of Americans who should be taxed at a higher rate. Yet somehow, in my regular paycheck, I give away about 35% of it to Medicaid, social security, and unemployment efforts. If I was not already paying enough taxes, my hard earned commission check that I receive at the end of the Summer from my sales job is taxed at 51.2%. When I worked hard to earn 800 extra dollars this summer in addition to my normal pay, I will only see about 400 of it because of the ridiculous tax rates.

I am infuriated because democrats seem to be oblivious to the fact that all of this unemployment bailouts are making the hard workers of this country unable to benefit from their work. I heard on three separate occasions from people I was trying to sell raffle tickets to, that they didn't need the 20,000 dollar raffle prize because they were on unemployment. It pays more to not have a job because of these tax programs. Why should I, or the rest of the country work for a living when the government will just give us handouts? Democrats forget that someone has to pay for all of these social programs, and it does not just fall on the 1%. It majorly falls on the hardworking middle class.

I believe in the flat tax, where everyone pays a specific percentage of what they earn. This way, everyone is paying their fair share and no matter what. The upper 1% will still be paying more, because they make more. Those who do not make much of an income, will be paying very little. I am not insensitive to people who need some help to get by, but there needs to be more regulation on who qualifies for these programs because the entitlement in this country is getting out of control. I am sick of working multiple jobs trying to save for my future, and instead end up paying for those who sit on the couch all day and collect checks from the government.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
