United We Stand, Divided We Fall

Don't fuel the flame.

United We Stand, Divided We Fall

Unfortunately, we are divided as a country. The United States of America is not united in any way with the perspective on the events going on the past year. We have #blacklivesmatter and #alllivesmatter fighting over police brutality. The nation is split over the current presidential election between the two major parties. People can not rationally act towards each other. Hate is fueling hate. For the nation to survive, we need to stop dividing ourselves and work together as one. We aren't called the United States for nothing, it means that we are to be united.

Social Media has been blown up over different groups fighting. Is it a drawback on what the internet has become? A tool that could bring everyone peacefully together is dividing over what they are told online. Lies and misconception spread fast on what is trending and this is highly impacting us as a country. False statistics are being published online and shared by users who do not realize that it could be satire or flat out false. Some are trying to stir everything up so they can watch the chaos and laugh. Social Media is a tool.

The blocking of roads and highways are not a good idea because what if an ambulance needs to take a person who is dying to a hospital? Or what if there was a fire and needed to be put out? It is causing people to hate the #blacklivesmatter cause because it is hindering the safety of others. I do not disagree with #blacklivesmatter, i just think that it should be handled differently. The #alllivesmatter counterargument isn't helping either. Yet it is true that we all matter, but each side is fueling each others flame. Counter protests can cause major fights and police to intervene, which will cause more problems in the end. Both sides need to realize what they say and do has a major impact. This is not always a good impact. There is more hate than there should be. We are all brothers and sisters. We cannot be divided.

The 2016 Presidential Race has been a quagmire for both the Republican and Democratic parties. Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton have a lot of hate, with people saying how much they hate these people and the other party. Neither seem to be great candidates, but it proves that we should not be split as a country politically. George Washington did not want a two party system, yet here we are with two. The nation cannot agree on anything dealing with important policies. The budget is a problem and nobody is cooperating to fix the deficit. Only arguments have been fought with no solutions. People being civil with their opinions is not a thing in current society.

We are being divided as a country, and we cannot let this happen. We are all Americans. Whether you were born here or are a first generation immigrant, we are all equal and deserve to be treated the same. We cannot let hate fuel other's hate because all it does is add to the problem. The next few years are going to be tough, but we can make it if we stop dividing ourselves.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
