We have all felt that familiar feeling of being unmotivated. At times, it feels like no matter how card you try, you just cannot face the day. While far from regular depression, which is persistent and deliberate, being in a funk from time to time is completely normal.
There are many conventional ways to feel better, like listening to uplifting music or taking a shower, but what about some of the lesser known methods?
Here are 5 unique ways to feel more motivated in under 10 minutes.
1. Call a family member or a friend whom you haven't spoken to in a while.
Getting outside of your head and focusing on something other than the depressed state you might currently be experiencing is a sure way to feel better. Is there a friend or family member whom you haven't spoken to in what feels like ages? give them a call and make sure to really focus on what's going on in their life. This will motivate you to start getting on track with yours.
2. Focus on what you are grateful for.
Before you discount this advice because of the old "just because someone's problems are bigger than mine, doesn't mean mine don't exist", truly try to compare your life to those who are way less fortunate than you. Most importantly, focus on looking for what you are grateful in your own life. It can even be something as simple as drinking your favorite tea.
3. Clean.
A dirty space can surely make you feel unmotivated. A cleaning session can help you get active, focus on something else, and tidy up. Not only that, but this method gets you right out of bed.
4. Fake it till you make it.
When nothing seems to help, simply force yourself to get out of bed. A good trick is to set a timer for ten minutes and tell yourself that if you don't feel better by the time it goes off, you can go back to bed. Really try to smile and get started with your day. Usually, if you start to get busy, you won't even notice when the ten minutes have passed and by the time they do, you won't want to get back into bed.
5. Give yourself a pep talk.
Lastly, if nothing else seems to help, you can just try to motivate yourself with a good, old-fashioned pep talk. You know yourself better than anyone and should be able to find the right words. If not, websites like Youtube should have what you're looking for.
