Being born with a unique name is a real life struggle. Whether it's your first or last name, it takes people a bit to pronounce, write and memorize your name since it's so unique.
1. You get used to repeating it several times.
Just by looking at someone, I know that I have to repeat my name again. They get this confused face that just says, "Oh my gosh, that is not a normal name and I have no idea how to say it." I say my name so many times in one day that people might start thinking I'm shallow. But no, I'm just making sure everyone can pronounce it correctly.
2. "That's such a pretty name" sounds like a broken record.
I mean, I still love it when people say this, but I'm used to it at this point. Is it just that this is the only thing people say when they learn about your name.
3. The new Facebook feature has made life a little easier.
That add-on that lets you write your name phonetically is a life-saver.
4. You've stopped correcting people since they'll just continue to butcher your name.
People always fight with me for not correcting them when they say my name wrong, but I have heard so many different variations that it just don't even bother me any more.
5. Your own family members don't know how to write it.
You know it's bad when your own family can't write your name. I've had close aunts spell my name in ways that I didn't even know possible. But hey, as long as you get the gift, it doesn't matter how they spell your name.
6. Your full name does not fit in any government form.
Whether it's your first or last name, I've been there. Because I have two last names, it's a struggle to fit both unto official documents.
7. "Where are you from?"
This is the number one question that follows right after "what's your name?" Since you don't have a typical name, like Brittney or Josh, you're obviously not from around here. If you were born here, then your parents or your grandparents must not be then, right?
8. It's a miracle when someone gets it right on the first try.
Uhm, have I met you before, because there is just no way you said that correctly on the first try.
9. You have a normal go-to nickname.
Since baristas and substitutes never get your name right, and they don't really have to, you have a simple nickname just for them.
10. You're so proud of your name, you write on everything.
No matter what, you still love your name. There's no one else in the world that has your name, and you're proud to be the only one to rock it.
