Not many people have the same name as you. Whether it's because it's in a different language, or your parents made it up or switched up the spelling, your unique name is the epitome of the label that really makes you an individual.
1. Only hearing your name elsewhere once or twice in your lifetime.
Like, less than a whole hand of fingers could count. (It's not common. At all.) But when you do find someone else with the same name as you, it's almost unbelievable. For the both of you.
2. Your name is NEVER on anything.
You've given up looking at the names on keychains, mugs, even coca-cola bottles. Everything's gotta be custom-made or personalized, and even that isn't guaranteed. Your Starbucks drink is proof (minus the few kind souls that ask you how to spell it).
3. The question, "What a beautiful name! What does it mean?!" is your least favorite.
...because you actually have no idea. And if you do, the explanation is so long and out of the blue that saying "I don't know" is usually your best bet.
4. People butcher your name left and right, so you just go with whatever they say.
Yes, that means spelling AND pronouncing. You sympathize with Cady Heron from Mean Girls when they pronounce her name as "Caddy" not "Katie." It's literally the story of your life and it happens to you all the time, so you start to feel bad for correcting them a million times and give up. "Oh, your name is Alexia?" "No it's Alecia." "Aleesha?" "Alecia." "Aleecee-a?" "No. Ah-le-cee-a." "That's what I said, Aleesha!" *shrugs* "Yes."
5. You don't have a "normal" nickname because your name can barely form one.
Your name is impossible to come up with something that won't sound ridiculous. So sometimes your friends really have to be creative and think of something based off your personality or an inside joke. Because your name just won't work unless it rhymes with something, which is also pretty unlikely.
6. You don't put your last name when putting your number in somebody else's phone.
Seriously. What are the chances they know "another you?!" (Hint: very slim). You're practically on first-name basis when people talk about you because there's zero confusion.
7. It's a miracle when someone actually pronounces your name the right way.
There's no better feeling when a teacher, announcer, or someone at a restaurant calling your order pronounces your name the right way on the first try. It's the little things that make you happy.
