Flowers, chocolate, both or neither? Let's talk about how originality is seriously missing from Valentine's Day.
What things do you think of when people talk about Valentine's Day? For me and most people, I know I think of pink and red. I think of cards, stuffed animals, flowers, chocolate, and hearts. Hearts; literally everywhere are hearts.
I'm not against Valentine's Day at all, I plan on celebrating it myself. So, if you are going to celebrate Valentine's Day, here's some things I would love for people to keep in mind.
Can we all just step away from what everyone is telling us to get our boyfriends and girlfriends for Valentine's Day this year and get them something they actually want? My friends and I got each other stuff for Valentine's Day in the past and we were just talking about how we spent $10 on a stuffed bear and neither of us wanted one nor did we have space for them.
I also, personally, don't really like the chocolate boxes. I would much rather get my favorite candy bar or if you insist on it being red, some Twizzlers. I do really like flowers and very rarely have gotten them so this would actually be great for me.
On the other hand I know some people that really don't like getting flowers because they "just die." I also have friends who love receiving cards.
This year at Walmart I found a stuffed typewriter in with all the giant bears for Valentine's Day. I loved it! This was something I wanted, something I wouldn't buy for myself and something that I wouldn't feel like was taking up space I didn't have. This made it the perfect thing for my boyfriend to get me.
So things to keep in mind:
1. Be original
Don't go for the obvious teddy bear and chocolates. Try and think of something unique.
2. Find out what they like (but wouldn't necessarily buy for themselves)
Listen to them or hey, even ask them. I would much rather ask someone what they want and they actually like it than get them something they don't want.
3. Don't go too overboard
If you want to break the bank on presents that is really up to you but personally if you are going to do that I don't think Valentine's Day is the time. Wait for your anniversary.
