"Hi! I'm the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Trixie Mattel. And I am the Laura Ingalls Wilder of drag, Katya. And this is UNHhhh..."
On March 25th, 2016, the world was graced with a revolutionary new show. "UNHhhh," pronounced like the noise you make when you are about to vomit or are trying to turn someone on, with Trixie Mattel and Katya Zamolodchikova released its first episode. For those of you not in the loop, Trixie and Katya are superstar, iconic drag performers from season seven of "Rupaul's Drag Race." Trixie, the queen with the clown-like aesthetic who was sent home too soon, and Katya, the Russian bisexual vixen with a million catchphrases and the Miss Congeniality crown on her head, have been running the show. "UNHhhh" is their show and not ours so they can talk about whatever they want.
Katya and Trixie have used their expert status to talk about everything from traveling to dating to flirting and more. Think of them as your crazy, alcoholic aunts recreating Maury Povich and Dr. Phil at the same time. They are honest, truthful, concise, and most importantly, correct about everything. These best friends (or lovers, depending on what fan fiction you are reading) give it to you every episode. So why am I gagging so? Because this show is fabulous! That's why!
One of my favorite episodes, episode 8 to be exact, is when the duo discussed drag names. Naming yourself when you become a drag queen, because what skinny twink or desperate gay who needs a Halloween costume isn't trying to be one, is incredibly difficult and takes a good amount of skill and artistry. If you are not a comedy queen, maybe don't go for the pun name. If you are a comedy queen, go for it! Be the next Lisa Newcar or (wait for it, you'll get it) Karen from Finance, two amazing drag queens you'll attempt to be.
Some true highlights of the 17 released episodes have been: Katya's laugh, Trixie getting read for her thighs by someone on the street, and the stories that these beautiful women have to share. I don't want to spoil any of them for you, but they involve shaving a butt, a dead mother's chair, and stolen cash. You want to watch the show now, you clicked out of this article and jumped over to YouTube. It's OK. I still got the page view, and I thank you for that.
The episodes can be found on the "World of Wonder" YouTube page or on either queens' social media accounts. Make sure to watch them all and subscribe to WOW Presents or presents, as the girls say, like under your Holiday Tree of celebrating all holidays. I linked the first episode below so you don't even have to go looking. Say goodbye to the next hour or so of your life, while you binge watch and learn from these experts in all aspects of life.
