I already know what you're thinking: "Oh God, here she goes again about 10 more songs that we need to listen to." But hey, I happen to think my recommendations are pretty damn good (about music at least) so don't even pretend like you didn't blast the songs from my last article at your most recent pregame (because I know you did).
ANYWAYs, instead of giving you more songs that are pregame material, I've decided to switch it up a bit and talk about music that I think is completely underrated. So, stay tuned for a list of 10 songs that you've probably never heard of but are about to become your new favorites.
1. In Your Atmosphere by John Mayer
Let me just start by saying that this is literally my favorite song of ALL TIME. I found it one night when I was in 7th grade and never looked back. How committed am I to this song? I've actually come close to tattooing the lyrics on my body several times, just to give you a sense.
I don't think it's a secret that John Mayer has such a good voice that it's almost gross, but this song especially gets me and it's not even one of his most famous. Honestly, I don't know what you're still reading this for. You should be logging into your Spotify to listen to this by now.
2. Gale Song by The Lumineers
I think my favorite part about this song is the build-up throughout the entire thing. Instead of just having your regular flip-flop between chorus and verses, this song has a gradual buildup as it plays and will wreck you in ways you never thought possible. You'll also feel like you're driving through the mountains of Colorado when you listen to the Lumineers, even if you're just sitting on the subway.
3. Hallelujah by Rufus Wainwright
Let's be honest: we all went through something the first time they played Hallelujah in Shrek. You know it, I know it, the writers of Shrek know it. While there are tons of versions of this song out there, I would argue anyone in saying that this one is the best, no questions asked.
4. Tomorrow by The Shakey Graves
Are you trying to impress your friends by looking indie with your music? If so, the Shakey Graves is for you. This group has the perfect mix of a folk-like and modern feel, so it's honestly hard not to like their music.
5. Hold On by The Alabama Shakes
You don't need to be from Alabama to enjoy this group. (Wow that was terrible, I regretted it as soon as I typed it) BUT, the Alabama Shakes are arguably one of my favorite bands of all time (not that you care though, not that you care) but hey STILL I would recommend them to anyone considering they're hard not to like and probably the best road trip music you can find. Hold On is their most famous right now for an obvious reason: It's amazing.
6. D'yer Mak'er by Led Zeppelin
If you own a trendy Brandy Melville T-Shirt that says "Led Zeppelin" but you've never actually heard their music, now's your chance. This song might sound a little familiar to you considering Sean Kingston ripped it off in 2007 (I'm not even gonna comment on that) but really: If you don't listen to Led Zeppelin, you're missing out in ways you don't even realize yet.
7. Suit and Jacket by Judah and the Lion
Judah and the Lion are the closest to country music that I'll ever get. The banjo, in the beginning, might scare you off, but don't let it fool you: this song is amazing.
8. We Find Love by Daniel Ceasar
This song is like a mix between Frank Ocean and the Weeknd. Do I need to say anything more to get you to listen to it?
9. No Regrets by MAG!C
Remember Magic? That band that sings "Rude" that no one ever heard from again? Well, they have a new album out, and I've gotta say: It's pretty damn good. This song is perfect for looking out a car window and pretending like you're in a movie (Don't pretend like you don't do it.)
10. Her by Majid Jordan
This song is PERFECT if you like the idea of rap but don't actually like rap. Similar to We Find Love by Daniel Ceasar, it has a sort of Frank Ocean feel but with a little more hip-hop. Admittedly, when I found this song I listened to it so many times that I hear it in my sleep sometimes, but I highly recommend to anyone and everyone.
