A good beat is always appreciated, but nothing pulls on our heartstrings like some good lyrics. Lines that resonate with what we're going through, or what we have experienced in the past have a tendency to linger in our minds and bring out the rawest form of emotion. I mean some artists can even have the ability to make you feel like you’ve experienced things that you haven’t yet gone through (thanks, Sam Smith, my heart is broken).

Here are just a few collections of lyrics that managed to stand out to me, and definitely managed to make me an emotional mess.

“Don’t Blame Me” by Taylor Swift

“Don’t blame me, love made me crazy

If it doesn't, you aint doin it right

Lord, save me, my drug is my baby

I’ll be using for the rest of my life”

It's no surprise that Taylor has made her way onto this list with the drop of her sixth studio album, "Reputation." In my opinion, “Don’t Blame Me” has not received nearly the attention that it deserves, especially with lyrics that reflect how crazy love can truly make somebody. Even if you’ve never experienced true love in a relationship before, Taylor makes you feel as though you have. I guess that’s why she has over 59 million followers on Twitter…

“Devil In Me” by Halsey

I won't take anyone down if I crawl tonight

But I still let everyone down when I change in size

And I went tumbling down tryna reach your high

But I scream too loud if I speak my mind”

You can’t deny that Halsey dominated 2017 with her hit singles “Now or Never,” “Bad At Love” and collaboration with boyfriend, G-Eazy, “Him & I.” I have had the opportunity to follow Halsey’s journey from her first EP, "Room 93," to her second studio album, "Hopeless Fountain Kingdom," and can say that this girl is an ABSOLUTE powerhouse not only on stage, but also in the studio. Although “Devil In Me” didn’t make the setlist for her current tour (@Halsey, what’s up with that?) it definitely made its way into our playlists.

“Bridges” by Fifth Harmony

“I believe in the beauty of love

I believe that we really are one

I believe every woman is a fighter

And I believe every man can stand beside her

And I know the world can be cold

We can't let it divide us

There's something inside us, a power that grows

There's something beautiful in the flaws in all we are”

Fifth Harmony’s self-titled album is composed of a variety of songs that hold such authentic, and raw lyrics (and even some political jabs that you wouldn’t expect from a girl group). I have had the privilege to see them in concert, and not only do they sing incredibly well, but they give more emotion to the song than you could ever pull from it or expect. Seriously, if you haven’t had the opportunity to listen to their album, "Fifth Harmony," or see them in concert, you’re missing out!

“Leviathan” by G-Eazy

“Looks sweet, but the devil’s in the details”

I love short lines that have such gravity to them, and G-Eazy for sure knows how to do that. "Leviathan" is one of my favorite songs off of his new album, "The Beautiful & Damned." If you haven’t had the chance to listen to some of his new songs I definitely recommend listening to: “Leviathan,” (obviously) “Eazy,” “Him & I,” “Love Is Gone,” “Crash & Burn”... actually, just listen to the entire album, it’s great.

“Greatest Love Story” by LANCO

“But I was what you wanted and you were what I needed

And we could meet in between”

Everything about this song is great and has completely dominated all country stations for the past two months or more. I mean, who isn’t a sucker for a good love song, especially when it hits those small-town, country vibes?

“Dive” by Ed Sheeran

“Don’t call me baby

Unless you mean it

Don’t tell me you need me

If you don’t believe it

So let me know the truth

Before I dive right into you”

Seeing Ed Sheeran on this list shouldn't be a surprise, especially since his lyrics are ALWAYS great. Seriously, it was so hard to choose one song when all of them pull at your heartstrings. I chose “Dive” mostly because if you didn’t cry your eyes out the first time you heard this song, then you didn’t really hear this song. Close your eyes, but try not to fall too in love with Ed. He does have a girlfriend, after all.

P.S. I am still listening to his album, "Multiply." I am such a sucker for a good Ed Sheeran jam.

“No Peace” by Sam Smith ft. YEBBA

“Will you show me the piece of my heart I've been missing?

Won’t you give me the part of myself that I can’t give back?

Will you show me the piece of my heart I've been missing?

‘Cause I'd kill for you, and darlin’ you know that”

OK, Sam, OK. Every time I listen to Sam Smith’s music I feel like I’m going through the heartbreak with him, and it mostly ends in tears with me lying in my bed with too many tissues and vanilla wafers. I always feel like maybe he should take a break from love for a while, but then again, what would we do without these beautiful songs and lyrics? Ugh.

“Sleeping With Strangers” by Jake Miller

“Falling asleep at somebody else’s,

She’s your replacement for now.

I’m only in this stranger’s apartment,

‘Cause you seem like the stranger now”

It’s obvious that Jake Miller is beautiful, but his lyrics don’t get enough attention. “Sleeping With Strangers” is basically every conversation I’ve ever overheard in the school lounge, although if you’re trying to win somebody back, sleeping with strangers is probably not the best way to show them that you care.

I could probably go on and on and on about what lyrics have touched me, but there’s way too many to count. Cheers to entering 2018 and looking forward to more great songs to come! The only time that you should ever look back, is to remember those great song lyrics from the past.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Syllabus Week As Told By Kourtney Kardashian

Feeling Lost During Syllabus Week? You're Not Alone!

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
