Two words:
Gilmore Girls
I finished Friends with my girlfriend earlier this year, her first time seeing it, and my third. I fell in love with it again, so, when we finished, I was a bit in denial about starting another show. A couple months went by, and we didn't know what we wanted to start next. We had already seen How I Met Your Mother and wanted something different. Finally, we asked her sister what we should watch, and she suggested Gilmore Girls.
Gilmore Girls is about a young, single mother, Lorelai, and her 16-year-old daughter, Rory. Lorelai works at a local inn while Rory is a student at a private school and hopes to get into Harvard. They live in Stars Hollow, Connecticut, a small town where everyone is like family.
One of the main reasons why I love this show is the comedy. Nearly everyone is sarcastic with each other, especially Lorelai. She banters with everyone including her co-workers, her parents, friends around town, and even complete strangers she just meets.
The storyline is also based on Lorelai's and Rory's relationships, which can make for some interesting times. Lorelai is very protective of Rory and makes sure that Rori comes first and not her men. Rory, on the other hand, is quite shy. She has one friend, Lane, and has little interactions with boys. When Rory transfers schools, she has guys fighting over her, and she doesn't know how to handle it. It doesn't get much better than a rebellious, sarcastic mother paired with a quiet daughter who are best friends.
When you finish The Office for the fifth time, give this show a try. It might look too girly or old since it does take place in the early 2000's, but I think anyone can like it. I watched the first episode and was immediately hooked. I had to know what was going to happen next. I was already emotionally invested in the show. That's how good it is.
