Music is one thing that has always been there for me through some of the hardest times in my life. Music has always been such a huge part of my life ever since I was a kid. You could often hear me singing back to Kidzbop covers. On the other hand, luckily I have grown up and discovered better music. I like a lot of big artists such as Demi Lovato and Ed Sheeran but I also still like those old artists Queen, Fall Out Boy, etc. However, I also have discovered some artists that some people might have heard of but many haven’t. Here are five of my favorite underrated artists that you may or may not have heard of.

1. Carlie Hanson

“I’m the only one that truly knows you best baby, don’t forget the things we did to put our minds at ease.” Seventeen year old, Wisconsin native, Carlie Hanson has impressed me at the start with this lyric from her song Only One. Carlie may have two songs out, but I can definitely tell that she will go far. Her music is so relatable but different. While you have the chance, I would highly recommend listening to Only One and Why Did You Lie before she blows up!

2. Camila Cabello

“Who are you when it’s three am and you’re all alone; and LA doesn’t feel like home?” In the Dark is one of my favorite songs off of Camila Cabello’s self-titled album Camila. Despite being in Fifth Harmony, there are many people that might still not know who Camila is. Camila has such a unique voice and to make it even better she’s from Columbia. She moved to the United States to pursue her dream of being a singer. Her vocal riffs, lyrics, production, etc. are the reasons that I will continuously have Camila on repeat for the rest of this year. If you haven’t listened to her album, I would highly suggest listening to it! Everyone probably knows her songs Havana, Real Friends and Never Be The Same by now, so I’d definitely suggest listening to She Loves Control, Consequences and Inside Out. Camila is going places whether people support her going solo or not and I can’t wait to see how far her solo career takes her!

3. Carly Pearce

“I remember every little thing, the high, the hurt, the shine, the sting of every little thing.” After living in Nashville, TN for seven years and performing at Dollywood when she was younger, Carly Pearce is finally getting the recognition that she deserves! Her first single Every Little Thing recently hit number one on the country charts and her second single Hide The Wine is currently playing on country radio stations as well. Carly Pearce is such a humble and hard-working person and she’ll be touring with so many big country stars this summer such as Luke Bryan, Dan + Shay, Rascal Flatts, etc. Keep your eyes out for her, because Carly Pearce will continue to dominate the country charts.

4. Why Don't We

“The sky’s so clear when you’re the view.” Would the music industry be complete without boybands? Definitely not! There are so many boybands that I enjoy but recently I came across the group Why Don’t We. Looks aside, their harmonies and lyrics will have you swooning in an instant. Why Don’t We is a group of five boys ages 16-19. Zach Herron, Jack Avery, Corbyn Besson, Daniel Seavey and Jonah Marais. They recently worked with Logan Paul and that’s when their career fully blew up. I highly suggest listening to all of their EPs but I think that you should definitely listen to their songs Taking You and Nobody Gotta Know.

5. Kelsea Ballerini

“I forgot I had dreams, I forgot I had wings.” Kelsea Ballerini’s sassiness and humbleness is one of the many great things about her. There are many people that may know Kelsea Ballerini but there are some that still don’t. On the other hand, there are many people that still compare her to Taylor Swift. Kelsea’s unique country sound makes it easy for her to be considered both a country and pop artist. All of her songs are amazing but some of my favorites would have to be Stilettos, The First Time and Secondhand Smoke.

Fortunately, I can personally relate to Secondhand Smoke on a very personal level. Secondhand Smoke talks about this couple that is constantly fighting and Kelsea is worrying about whether or not she’ll have trouble finding love or making the same mistakes like her parents did before they got divorced. My parents are divorced and it personally hasn’t been easy on me but it has taught me a lot about life and I'm very grateful for that. Kelsea Ballerini is also one of the most humble artists ever even when she gets internet hate she never loses her determination or drive to accomplish her goals. Not only does she have her first headlining tour, Unapologetically, starting on Thursday but she'll also be touring with Keith Urban this fall. Keep an eye out for her because she's definitely going to continue to blow up the charts with her music!

The best thing about music is that there's so many artists and different genres that you can explore. Whether you like country, pop, rap, etc. I think that these five artists could easily win your heart. These artists are some of my favorite artists and I hope that I'm able to help others find some of their new favorite artists to listen to Despite these artists' music genres, I hope that people take time out of their day to listen to these artists as they all deserve it!

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

It's not all morning coffees and singing along to the radio.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.
