Oftentimes, we come across artists who make a lasting impression on us without any warning. Whether you’re a radio music listener, an active music listener, or a combination of the two, you have probably noticed an artist that not many other people know about. The following list of music acts, in my opinion, are the most underrated right now in music.

1. Alessia Cara

Who she is: 20-year-old R&B/Pop/Urban artist from Brampton, Canada. She is signed with Def Jam Records.

Why she’s great: Alessia Cara’s voice is one of the most naturally authentic voices in music today. Her sound is unlike anything on the radio. By mixing her R&B influences with heavy drum beats in majority of her songs with the effortless rasp in her voice, it’s clear Cara is a natural talent. You have probably heard her debut single “Here” on the radio, which reached #1 on Pop Radio and #5 on the overall Hot 100 Chart. Her first full-length album "Know-It-All" was released November 13, 2015 and is certified Gold by RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America).

2. James Bay

Who he is: 25-year-old Indie-rock/Soul/Blues artist from Hitchin, Hertfordshire, England. He is signed with Republic Records.

Why he’s great: James Bay has a very unique sound that mimics influences similar to John Mayer but with more angst to his voice. On March 23, 2015, he released his debut album "Chaos and the Calm," which scored him three Grammy nominations in 2015 for Best New Artist, Best Rock Album, and Best Rock Song for “Hold Back the River.” Bay has the songwriting and guitar skills that are way beyond his years – making him a true authentic artist that deserves more recognition.

3. Tori Kelly

Who she is: 23-year-old Pop/R&B artist from Wildomar, California. She is signed with Capital Records.

Why she’s great: For anyone that loves a true success story, you will appreciate Tori Kelly’s. After being rejected from "American Idol" in its 9th season, a fire was lit under Kelly to begin writing her own music and posting cover and originals on YouTube. After recording a couple of independently released EPs, she was finally discovered and signed with Capital Records in 2013. You have probably heard her singles “Nobody Love” or “Should’ve Been Us” on the radio, as they were released from her debut album "Unbreakable Smile." She was also nominated for Best New Artist at the Grammy Awards in 2015.

4. George Ezra

Who he is: 23-year-old Rock/Folk/Blues artist from Hertford, Hertfordshire, England. He is signed with Columbia Records.

Why he’s great: George Ezra has a classic sound similar to Bob Dylan in his prime. His rich, deep tone resonates boldly on his debut album "Wanted on Voyage," which was released on June 30, 2014. Despite his minimal success in America, his single “Budapest” hit the Top 40 as some radio stations picked up his classic sound. As a songwriter, he hits the nail on multiple levels – making him a force to be reckoned with in the coming years.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
