10 Underappreciated Professions That Deserve Much More Recognition Than They Are Getting

These professions need a well-deserved "thank you" for being our heroes every day.

Every single profession in this list work so hard, yet the only thing that is growing is what their "status" currently is on the social scale instead of their recognition, and that needs to change. How do you feel about these occupations?

Police Officers/Firefighters

The reason I put both of these in the same category is that both of these professions work nonstop day and night just to protect their cities. Police officers are always on the patrol looking for people who aren't being safe and doing everything they can to make sure WE have a better life.

Firefighters put their life on the line to save all those forest fires that happen across the country and make sure people stay alive. If this doesn't describe a hero, I don't know what does.

Pilots

Pilots get a good amount of recognition, but only after our flight is over. This isn't about safety so much as it is about their training and what they go through to get titled as "captain." Pilots are always there even when the weather looks dangerous. They deserve credit for everything they have done and continue to do.

Bus Drivers

Now you might be wondering why I put such a random profession on the list. If you think about it, bus drivers have to handle more pressure, economic deflation, and nuisance more than almost any job in the world and I say that with pure confidence. They have to handle kids being rude or being noisy while they drive, yet they keep persisting every day and I respect that. Some even go all night and sleep in their buses with no comfort so they can be on time for the next stop. Say thank you to your bus driver tomorrow while we're on the topic.

Therapists

Imagine having to sit in a chair and go through sessions on top of sessions every single day sometimes with no break. I would never be able to do this but therapists can. Most of them genuinely know where you're coming from if you are talking to them about an issue and focus soley on the person in front of them, not the clock. They are definitely needed in this world because without them, it would be hard to cope with problems.

Every Teacher

I know there have been a lot of discussions about how teachers don't get enough recognition, but I don't think it sticks with people. Every single teacher, good or bad, nice or mean, deserves recognition for everything that they do and go through. Students constantly complain about teachers all the time or "how much homework" they get every day but the people who work 2 times harder are teachers, so the least we could do is show our respect.

Fabricators

A fabricator is someone who assembles and builds machinery. Their salary ranges from about 37k-40k with 1,600 job openings but 7.6% of people are unemployed. They're important because they make all of the products we need ranging from toys to tools to household items. Without their hard work, machinery would be lost.

Construction Workers

They build houses, work long hours, make and operate equipment and fuel the entire world. They hammer nonstop and are responsible for so many tasks around their city. For such a rough lifestyle, their salary nor appreciation doesn't match and that is the sad truth.

Waste Collectors

Also known as someone who picks up our garbage, these people do so much for the earth. They learn to accept the bad smell and society's disapproval. In New York, garbage collectors are paid just as much as teachers in other states because people are realizing how important they are. If they didn't pick up our garbage, our earth would turn in to a bunch of waste.

Janitors

Thank you, to those who stay late after school to pick up someone else's mess. Thank you for doing your work diligently and maintaining so much consistency. Janitors spend hours sometimes just scrubbing the floors because people are too careless to pick it up because they think, "Oh, the janitor will do it," but let's make their life easier and pick up OUR mess.

Fast-Food Workers

People go home and tell their kids that if they don't put effort into school they will turn into "that guy." This is not okay but the strength these workers have is increible and they try not to take anything personally. They are making the food, we don't need to be judging so easily.

I only have two words for all the professions that work hard to benefit others: Thank you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
