Happy thanksgiving!

When Thanksgiving comes around, we can’t help but be thankful for the things we are blessed with in this life, even though we should be thankful everyday. I always feel overwhelmed when it comes to thinking of all the innumerable things I'm thankful for, and when asked I usually just say something cliché (but still true nonetheless) such as my family, friends, or health. And yes, while it’s true that I'm extremely thankful for these things there’s some underrated things I'm finding I'm thankful for this year too. This year, I'm thankful for....

1. Family, Friends, Health, Having Everything I Need

Of course I couldn’t leave these things out of my thanks this year. Without the people I'm surrounded with who keep me going, and the opportunities that I’ve been giving to make the best possible life for myself are things I’ll never give thanks enough for. I'm blessed with the best parents, best friends, and best people taking care of me making sure that I'm always in good health and always taking the opportunities that I have.

2. Libraries that are open late

When I have too much work to get done, and too little focus to do it in my room, I'm thankful for the libraries being open late, and for the other people who stay there as long as I do to silently keep me company while we all stress and do our loads of work.

3. Boots in Binghamton

I'm thankful for my boots when going to school in Binghamton because when it starts raining while I'm in class, I'm glad I don’t have to worry about my feet getting wet, cold, or starting to hurt from walking the long distance across campus. Also, I'm glad my boots hide the fact that I don’t actually own matching socks.

4. People who don’t care what I look like on a daily basis

It’s really too much effort to put on makeup or do my hair every day, or even put on jeans. I'm thankful that other people walk around with the same small amount of cares to give, and are too worried about themselves to worry about what anyone else (me) is wearing.

5. Twix

Honestly, have you ever even had a Twix? They don’t even need a description, I'm just so thankful that they exist. Especially when I need a reward to get me through doing my work.

6. Walmart being a one-stop shop for everything

Walmart makes my life so easy. Things are all in their place there, and there’s almost nothing you can’t find at Walmart-even when you weren’t looking for anything. Also apart from having everything you could ever need, it’s also convenient and cheap-which makes my bank account happy.

7. Lenient Professors

Did you ever have a professor who just gets it? They don’t have very strict grading policies, they have lenient attendance policies or let you out early, and actually want you to do well. What a novel concept. If you’re a professor like this, I'm thankful for you, and that you don’t want to make my life too hard among the mess of other classes.

8. Realists

I love when people just tell it like it is, and are able to have a normal conversation. I’m thankful for people who can be honest without hurting other people, and still getting their point across.

But in all seriousness, Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful for everything you may typically forget about. Always be thankful for the opportunities you’re given, and the people you come across in your life. Be thankful for challenges, and people who challenge your ways of thinking. And this year, try to make a pledge to remember things you’re thankful for more often than just one day or one week a year. Anything could happen, so make sure you tell the people in your life that you’re thankful for them and that they make your life greater just by being in it.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.

One Book Made Me Question Existence In Its Entirety

"The Stranger" by Albert Campus touches upon many heavy elements... but not in the way you expect. Although it touches upon the aspects of death and love, it also deals with a hidden philosophy similar to that of nihilism.

The story follows the short life events of Meursault, a Frenchman whose carelessness for his actions eventually ends him in jail and dependent on a jury of people to judge the ethicality of his decision and the punishment that he deserves. He eventually gets the death penalty and all throughout he is nonchalant and almost apathetic towards his situation. He finally snaps when the prison sends a priest to him to absolve him of his sins and to cajole him in confessing to the lord.
