If you know me, you know I have "Friends" on my TV as background noise. If you don't know me then you might be asking why. The answer is simple: I've watched the show at least 10 times from start to finish so I know it like the back of my hand. Each time I rewatch an episode, I find new things to question.
These are the 16 questions I still have about "Friends."
What is Monica's middle name?
We find out most of the characters' middle names throughout the show, but we never find out what the E. in Monica's name stands for.
Why are their birthdays inconsistent?
Birthdays are probably the most inconsistent aspect of the characters on "Friends." Not only do they change throughout the show, but their ages also are never correct. Rachel is the youngest even though she and Monica are the same age, and Ross is 29 in seasons 3, 4 and 5 even though he should be one of the oldest.
Why did Chandler claim to never cry, when this wasn't true?
It seems that Chandler's character constantly changes emotions and personalities when needed for the plot.
What happened to Ben?
Ben, Ross and Carol's son, seems to disappear in the later seasons. Not only does no one notice, no one talks about him either after a certain point. Sure, Ross has another child but he wouldn't just forget about his first child.
Why was there a potato in the coffee shop?
This is just plain weird.
Why did Rachel need to be introduced to Chandler?
In the pilot episode, Rachel is introduced to Chandler but they had already met three times, twice at Thanksgiving gatherings with Monica, Ross, and their parents, and once at a college party where she kissed Chandler.
Does ice cream really make Ross's teeth hurt?
Not only did he have ice cream with Elizabeth, he shared a cone with Marcel too.
How did Chandler forget how to palm money?
Richard taught him early in the show but once he's dating Monica, he fails when he tries to persuade the maître d' at a restaurant for a table.
Why are Phoebe's claims about her father so inconsistent?
She always says he left before she was born, but when she meets him, we find out he sang her lullabies, one of which inspired her own song "Smelly Cat."
Why is Phoebe's backstory also inconsistent?
I'm not even going to get started. Virtually nothing about her backstory is consistent.
Why did Phoebe stop playing her music at Central Perk?
Once Mike enters her life, Phoebe seems to stop playing her music at the coffee house.
What's Gunther's last name?
The group never seemed to care much for Gunther, which seems odd given they saw him every day. So really, what is his full name and what's his backstory?
Why didn't Chandler and Monica name one of their kids Joey?
They broke this promise to him, even though they had an agreement.
Why did Phoebe suddenly have a roommate?
Sure, it made sense to the plot of the episode, but we never hear about her again and where she's going to live once Phoebe's place becomes a one-bedroom apartment.
Does Phoebe know how to speak French or not?
She either knows French or doesn't know French. Which one is it?
When do they go to work?
They're always at the coffee house, which yes, makes sense for the overall show, but doesn't make sense when you realize they have jobs.
