Filling up someone's bucket is all about building someone up. For me, this started the day I entered the world and continued throughout my life. Being raised by parents who supported me shaped my self-esteem, confidence and the way I view myself on a daily basis. It served as a building block in how I form and keep relationships now. One of the best things my parents have done for me is filling up my bucket. To most, this saying will make no sense; but, it helped me become the person I am more than anything.
The biggest messages that keep my bucket full are:
I love you!
You can do whatever you put your mind to.
Keep positive, you're going to do great!
You'll succeed!
I support you and your decisions!
So why in the hell do we need to constantly think about keeping our bucket full? Well, how many instances can you think of that your bucket gets emptied by the world? People are constantly battling to keep their self-esteem high, or they are struggling with their confidence. On a daily basis, you are going to run into people or situations that make you feel like you are not good enough, that you have failed and that you will never succeed in a specific area. I'm here to tell you that none of that is true!
Even if "filling your bucket" mentality isn't how you were raised, it's never too late to change the way you think. Tell your friends that you support them and love them. Support your family in all of their endeavors, no matter what they are. Stay positive in your relationships, and search for the good in each moment with the people you care about. One of the most empowering thing that you can do is fill up your own bucket.
Make yourself feel good about yourself. Find what you love and go after it, but be kind to yourself. Mistakes are inevitable, but the world will not end if things don't go as planned. You will make choices that can make things more difficult for yourself. And, you'll often be challenged by those around you, that can make your confidence falter. So keep your bucket full by taking a few of these steps:
1. Love yourself
2. Believe in yourself. You can do it!
3. Take care of your well-being. If you need a day off to pamper yourself or take a mental-health day then DO IT!
4. Find things about yourself that give you your confidence whether they are your looks, personality, skill set or anything else.
5. Know your worth and own it.
Filling your own bucket is not about being selfish, it's about caring for yourself. If you're lucky, there are multiple people in your life that already do this for you, now you have a term for it!
