Did you have a paper due at midnight? That's too bad! Online quiz? Not happening. Want to listen to Pandora radio on your way to class? Say goodbye to your data! The University of Maryland has once again experienced "inconsistencies" in their Wi-Fi network and the students are paying for it, metaphorically and literally (just wait for your phone bill this month).
UMD claims the Wi-Fi outage was due to a "15% increase in usage of the wireless network over the last year." Well no $#*!, this totally makes sense considering our ENTIRE society practically revolves around the use of the Internet -- obviously there is going to be an increase in the amount of devices as technology progresses.
But have no fear Maryland students, the Division of IT worked around the clock to restore the Wi-Fi and figure out the core problem. And while they got it back to the usual spotty connection, they plan to improve the wireless connection in the next THIRTY days. So as teachers continue to pile up due dates, you will continue to pull out your hair as your laptop attempts to connect to UMD [in]secure.
Per usual, the University of Maryland was right on top of things when the Wi-Fi outage occurred! The network went down early one morning and it only took UMD until quarter after eight that night to inform the students that there was a problem. Bravo Maryland!
You would think with the millions of dollars from tuition and alumni donations you could at least supply your students with half-way decent Wi-Fi connection... I am just trying to turn my papers in on time (and maybe watch some Netflix). But in all seriousness Maryland, get your $#*! together, I pay way too much money for there to be such an awful connection.
