Five and the Vending Machine

c0ffeeb1ack Tumblr

Five has been through a lot to put it lightly. So much so that letting him be the one cast member that swears in the whole show, is a gift in itself. Especially when he's about to go murder a whole group of people and all he wants is a candy bar. He deserves to say fuck.

Luther acknowledging his part in the apocalypse

Honestly, I didn't like Luther in the first season. I thought he was whiny, rash, and too loyal to Reginald. There was a LOT of hate for him on the internet. However, this season kind of redeemed him! The scenes where he acknowledges his part in the apocalypse and how he was at fault are some really good character arc writing. He still tends to cling to father figures in his life, but he realizes that Reginald wasn't a good person. We love growth in this household.

Vanya's Storyline

Holy hell, the fact that we got to see what Vanya's personality would be like without the pills and Allison's rumor AND get to see her fall in love with a woman? Amazing. Poetic cinema. Vanya's relationship with Leonard wasn't real and for her to try and get a chance to be happy and in love for real after years of being in pain? *Chef's kiss* Of course it's Umbrella Academy, and the siblings can't ever seem to get a chance to be normal and happy, but Vanya came real close.

Allison's Storyline

Even though this season was filmed and written a year ago, Allison's storyline is more relevant than ever. The writers could have glossed over the rampant racism of the 60s, but they chose to be as authentic as possible, and the season was released in the middle of the Black Lives Matter Movement, showing to TUA viewers that the fight has been going on for a long time and will go on. Episode 3 really highlights that point and reflects the deep seated racism that is still prominent today.

Family Bonding Moments

Okay, the biggest thing I had a problem with in Season 1 was that almost none of them acted like they were siblings! Allison was trying with Vanya, Ben and Klaus had the most sibling vibe, but besides that, nothing. So, I was screaming at every family moment on screen. I can't talk about all of them, so I'm going to make a list.

  • Allison calling out Diego for not saying hi and "Hi Allison"
  • Klaus and Allison running to each other at the mansion
  • Klaus, Allison, and Vanya in the hair salon
  • Five and Luther while meeting Five's past self
  • Five and Pogo *crying*
  • Luther and Diego having one brain cell i.e. Olga Foroga
  • Team Zero
  • Five doing whatever it takes to protect his family
  • Diego and Ben finally talking for the first time in years
  • Ben and Vanya *sobbing*
  • Luther protecting Allison and Klaus from bullets
  • Diego making sure to introduce himself to Allison's husband
  • The last episode where they all get in the car to be there for Vanya

Let me know what moments you thought were scream worthy!

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

Christmas tree

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
