Everyone has little pet peeves that can make or break a day. Maybe someone does something that makes you so annoyed, but they had no idea that it bothers you. This shows that living on a campus with a lot of people packed into the same space is hard sometimes. Here are some tips on how to be considerate of others, and how to make the campus a happier place to live.
Do not slam your weights at the gym.
There are some people out there that are sensitive to noise (like myself), and any loud noise can be distracting. When I hear many people slamming their weights at the gym, I jump. Please, when you are done with your set, slowly lower your weights to the ground. By doing this, you will make many people happy and it is actually better for your muscles to do that.
Take one serving at a time.
I am not sure how the other dorms' cafeterias are set up, but at Newman Hall, we enter our ID number, and we can take as much as we want. If we want seconds, we simply enter our ID number again and we won't be charged for it. Even though we can go back as many times as we would like, I always see this one guy taking ten hamburgers and eight chicken breasts. By doing this, he is being very inconsiderate of others. One time, I was having a bad day, and I was excited to have quesadillas and forget about my problems. As I got up to the front of the line, this guy takes the last ten quesadillas. Seriously, why can't he have taken one or two and saved the rest for others? Please people, take a few servings at a time and get seconds later.
Make room for others on the sidewalk.
Even if you are walking with a large group of people, always leave room for others to pass you. I have seen groups of five girls all walking slowly side-by-side and taking up the entire sidewalk. Please, leave room for others to pass you, especially if you are walking slowly. You never know who might be late for the most important interview of their lives.
Don't talk in lecture, unless it is relevant.
Some classes like chemistry and biology can be stressful and every minute of the lecture is important. That is why it is incredibly rude and distracting when someone is talking to his or her friend about what they did last night. Lectures are not for talking; they're for learning and listening. I am sure it is possible to catch up at a different time.
Cover your coughs and sneezes.
No one wants to be sick, so be considerate, and try not to spread germs. To make the campus a healthier place, it is important to contain sicknesses and not have them spread to everyone. With this in mind, please cover your coughs and sneezes. Also, if you feel like you are dying please do not come to class. I know sometimes you might not want to skip class, but for the sake of others please do.
