Last week's loss to Tennessee was another upsetting win for a team that looked promising before the year started. With the defensive coordinator for last year's national champions as our head coach and ESPN's 2016 top high school quarterback as our freshman star player, this season looked bright for the Georgia Bulldogs.
Issues began to surface at the North Carolina game, and the disappointment continued with Georgia's lackluster performance against Nicholls State on September 10th. While the Dawgs won by two points, issues throughout the game with the offensive line and specifically Eason's performance agitated many fans. Some of those problems can be attributed to the natural difficulty of changing coaching staff and adding a freshman quarterback in the same year.
Next came Missouri, where the Dawgs won by one point, and then the Ole Miss game. The Ole Miss game started off rough, with Georgia's offense struggling to make meaningful plays, and it never improved. The defense was incapable of holding off Ole Miss' strong offense, and a lack of coordination on the offensive line did not help even out the scores. Coming out of that game, many fans were understandably nervous for the Tennessee game.
Georgia, however, delivered a decent game of football against Tennessee. Our offense made a few excellent plays and looked more solid than previously. The defense worked very hard to keep Tennessee from scoring, especially with the multiple touchdown blocks towards the end of the second quarter. The Hail Mary at the end happens, and the final score- and Georgia's loss by only 3 points- does reflect how hard both teams played. It may have been a rough season until now, but hopefully the Dawgs' upward trajectory will continue.
