This past weekend, UFC 208 took place in Brooklyn and it wasn't as action-packed as fans would have hoped. The bouts I am covering were the ones that I think got the most hype for the card and I personally enjoyed the most. Of course, the Holm vs de Randamie fight as anticipated, but it left some individuals more disappointed than initially thought.
In the second fight of the night, Glover Teixeira faced Jared Cannonier in a Light Heavyweight match. In the beginning of the first round, the two decided to stand up and exchange strikes, but Teixeira quickly took the fight to the ground the wrestle Cannonier. In the second and third Teixeira decided to continue his plan and wrestle Cannonier stopping Cannonier from standing up. Teixeira won the fight by unanimous decision
In the next fight, Jacare Souza fought Tim Boetsch in a middleweight fight. This was a very quick match; Souza took Boetsch down to the ground to use his BJJ. In 3 minutes Souza forced Boetsch to tap using a kimura to finish him.
In the co-main-event, former middleweight champion Anderson Silva fought experienced fighter, Derek Brunson. Coming into this fight on a losing streaking I thought Anderson Silva was going to lose but through 3 rounds he showed why he is a former champion. Throughout the first two rounds, Silva was controlling the fight with his striking but not landing too many significant strikes. In the third round, Brunson took the fight to the ground but didn't finish the fight allowing Silva to win by unanimous decision for the first time in 4 fights.
The main event was Holly Holm versus Germaine de Randamie and it wasn't what the crowd had hoped for. Even Dana White was not pleased with the turnout of all of the events on the card. The entire fight was controversial because in two different rounds de Randamie threw illegal strikes after the bell rang but did not receive a point deduction either time. If de Randamie received a point deduction the fight would have ended in a draw or Holms could have won. We may not know exactly what the outcome could have been, but the new point system implemented last month makes it difficult to tell.
