Top 10 Things You Miss When You Leave For College As Told By SpongeBob

College is amazing, and there's nothing better than getting back for a new year, being able to see all your friends, and doing all of your favorite things. As much as everyone loves being back at school, there's always going to be those things that you miss from home which you just don't get to bring to college with you. Whether they're big or small, every once in a while, there's something that you wish you had from home.

10. Knowing where everything is.

I'm entering my second year at school and it still takes me an unreasonable amount of time to figure out how to find my classes, let alone to find anything off campus. At home, I could probably drive just about anywhere in my town with my eyes closed.

9. Places you have at home, but not at school.

Dutch Bros, it's only been a week and I already miss you so much. You don't think about how nice it is to have easy access to some of your favorite restaurants and hang out spots until you're sitting in your room at school craving your favorite snack and you realize you can't get it because you're hundreds of miles away. Just imagine the poor souls who go out of state and aren't anywhere near an In-N-Out.

8. No classes or homework

Obviously.

7. Having someone to help take care of you/consult when you're sick.

Few things suck more than when you get sick at school for the first time and don't have a parent to ask about what's wrong/get you medicine/basically wait on you hand and foot until you're better. Plus, I've texted my parents asking whether a certain combination or dosage of over the counter medicine might accidentally kill me more times than I'd like to admit (Mom, is it okay if I take Tylenol and Dayquil at the same time?). Thanks, WebMD, for consistently convincing me that I have a serious ailment when it's probably just a cold.

6. Home-cooked food.

Not that I have anything to complain about in terms of the food we're provided on campus, but sometimes even delicious dining hall food doesn't measure up to your favorite meal that you've been eating for as long as you can remember at home.

5. Privacy

Upon getting to school, you quickly realize that literally the only times you're ever alone are when you're in the shower, in the bathroom, or those rare times when you're the only roommate home. Constantly having things to do and people to hang out with is great, but sometimes, you just wish you could hide away by yourself do your own thing for a little while.

4. Your own bed

I don't think I've ever heard anyone say "Wow! My twin XL bunk bed is way more comfortable than the bed I have at home!" Being able to knock out at night in a big comfy bed is something a lot of people take for granted before heading to school. Also, getting your sheets onto a top bunk is about a million times more difficult than making your bed at home is.

3. Friends from home

The friends you make at school are bound to be some of the best people you've ever met, but there's no way you can make it through the whole year without wishing you could hang out with your friends from home sometimes. Whether it's because they've known you for so long or just because you guys have always had so much fun together, home friends always hold a special place in your heart that can't be filled by anyone else.

2. Pets

I think my heart breaks a little bit every time I walk around campus and see a dog that reminds me of my own. Dog, cat, guinea pig, or tarantula, pets are so important, and having to leave them is like leaving a little piece of your heart at home. Now excuse me as I go Facetime my dog and my cat.

1. Family

A day doesn't go by that I don't wish I could just have my family down here with me. Sure, it's super exciting to be out on your own, figuring out life, but at the end of the day, you can't help but wish you could be with the people who have been with you all along every once in a while.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
