Uber is known as the cheap personalized taxi service. You don't have to talk to anyone about what time you need them to pick you up; you don't even have to tell them your location or make sure you have cash on hand. It's all programmed into your phone already which makes for the utmost convenience. I have used Uber dozens of times, and I am very fond of it. Whether it be because I am in a busy city that I would rather not drive in, or because I'm choosing to be safe I know that I can always count on Uber to serve me well and do so on a college student's budget.
This last week Uber rolled out their new self-driving cars. Being that I haven't actually taken a ride in one of these cars, I can't say whether I will enjoy it. Here's an article based on one person's experience with the new cars. But from the outside looking in, one of the best things about riding in an Uber is often the driver. I have ridden in a car that had a disco ball with a light show and my very own iPad on the center console to control the music. I have rambled on aimlessly to many drivers and gotten to know about many different people that I otherwise would not have met.
My thoughts are that most people take these cars it's usually because they cannot or do not want to drive themselves because they feel safer with someone who is from the location. Are these cars really safer? I don't know how safe I would feel riding in a car with no driver, and I honestly think it might be a recipe for disaster. It looks like we will find out eventually; I'm just glad I'm not one of the first to be testing it out.
