Uber Everywhere (Not The Song)

Uber makes it easy for everyone.

With summer fun comes summer traveling. If you’re traveling somewhere and getting transportation is a bit inconvenient, fret no more! Uber is here, and no, I don’t work for them. I just really love their service and I would like to share with you why I think Uber is one of the greatest modes of transportation out there.

Requesting an Uber is at the touch of your fingertips

You can download the app via the App Store, Google Play or Microsoft. Once you request an Uber, you have access to the name of the driver, a photo of the driver, the type of car they will arrive in, and the tag numbers of the car. It will tell you the amount of time it will take for your driver to arrive at your location, and it will show you on a map where they're coming from to get you. On top of that, you can also get an estimate on how much your ride will be before you request the Uber.

It's cheaper than the usual taxi cab service

To be honest, I don’t really know how Uber drivers can make such a profit when it comes to a short car ride request. But that’s out of the picture. Uber is so much cheaper than a majority of other taxi services that are out there. The price of an Uber varies on distance and time (like any other taxi service), and it will usually come with a base fare. Depending on where you live, you may get charge of a few cents on the county’s surcharge. And depending on the location, it might have a booking fee too. But if you call another taxi service company and do a price comparison, nine times out of 10, Uber will be the cheaper one.

No cash, no problem

You never pay up front with Uber. You can connect your personal debit or credit card to the service via the app, and it will automatically save the card information for future rides. So if you are ever in a rush to get from one point to another, the money will automatically be taken out of your account. Receipts are kept in a “History” tab on the app but are also e-mailed to you. It also works with PayPal if you prefer that for safety and secure reasons. And another great thing about Uber, you never leave a tip for the driver!

If you get your friends to join Uber, you get yourself a free ride

It’s a win/win situation. When you first open your Uber account, you are automatically given a code that is located on the sidebar where it has the option to select on “Free Rides.” You click on that and that code that’s written in the box is a code you can share with absolutely anyone who is new to Uber. If they use your code on their first ride with Uber, you yourself also get a free ride. You can even share it on your social media platforms which will allow anyone to get your code. How much cooler does it get?

Your voice and your input matters to them

After you’ve been on your Uber ride, you have the option to rate your drive and leave any comments that will be visible for them to see. Thankfully, I’ve used Uber for a little over three years now, and I’ve never had a “bad Uber driver." I’m not usually the one to leave any comments, but sometimes if a conversation flows well with the driver, or if the made my ride very enjoyable and relaxing, I will leave a good comment about them and what I enjoyed the most.

Split the cost with friends

If you and your friends or family are carpooling together to a place, and you don’t want to be the one to offer to pay for everyone, Uber has a convenient tool for their users to split the cost of the fare between them. Isn’t that nice for everyone?

Spotify

If you have a Spotify account, you can connect it on the Uber app, and the next time you get a ride, your Spotify music will play automatically in the car if you let the driver know. It’s so much more fun to ride with you in control of the songs.

I really just wanted to share this article with those who were unfamiliar with the service. And if you found this information useful, please let me know so I know that my article, in some way or another made a difference to at least one person. If you’re trying out Uber for the first time and would like a free ride (worth up to $10) with the code: lisar33

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant

There's always chaos in the restaurant business.

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant
Brisanis

Working in the restaurant industry is possibly the most fundamentally challenging occupation I have ever experienced when it comes to hospitality and customer service. When you go to a five-star restaurant you expect the time of your life, a two hour getaway, a walk through another time period (rustic Italy, France, Spain, etc), or simply a honeymoon undergo. What you don't see are the behind the scenes scut work: carrying trays, polishing glassware and silverware, kitchen chaos, the list is endless. Now, I'm not saying being a host, server, or bartender is the worst thing in the whole wide world, there are definitely worse things. But the fact of the matter is that it isn't always sunshine and rainbows. In the two years that I have spent in restaurant and customer service, I have spoken my share of expletives, yelled at kitchen staff, and dealt with not-so-happy guests. It isn't easy to keep a bright and shiny smile on your face when all you want to do is choke every person who walks near you. Anyone who has spent even two weeks working in a restaurant understands the rigor and stress that comes with it. Restaurant culture is a tiny world in and of itself that operates on its own principles and creates its own society. It even has its own language. The sayings "runner", "corner", and "on a bus" wouldn't make sense to anyone otherwise. My mother and I both work in a restaurant and the best advice I can give someone going out to eat is to treat us like people. Yes...believe it or not we are people, people. Say "please" and "thank you", or stack your cleared plates before a busser gets to the table. Trust me, the gesture goes a lot farther than you may think.

So, if you work in a restaurant, you can relate with the following points. If not, check out how the brain of a restaurant service (or any customer service) worker actually works. See if you can identify any crazy weird habits your friends have a tendency to partake in.

One of the scariest things we will ever face in our life is going to college. Many of us move away to a new town, join new organizations, and make new friends. We are expected to study, have a social life, relationships, maybe work, and be healthy. It seems pretty easy to do, and in high school all we wanted to do was graduate and move on to this next chapter of our lives. If you are in high school, here are some things that you can learn from before you get to college. If you have already been through your freshman year of college, hopefully you can relate to the things I have learned in college.
