Last semester, I didn't rush a sorority because I told myself that I could not justify paying so much money for friends and alcohol.
Then I sat back and watched my friends go through the recruitment process and I realized it ran so much deeper than that. For awhile, I was the srat groupie, accompanying my friends to date parties and getting a secondhand feel for things. It didn't take me too long to realize I wanted it too.
Going to an all-girls high school leaves you with a serious sense of sisterhood. I was missing that in my college life, and I knew I wanted it back. Things happen for a reason, like they always do, and I was lucky enough to have thought Theta.
Being a part of a charter class has opened my eyes to how influential women can be on one another. You don't have to be known as one type of girl. You can bring together girls with different interests and styles and ideologies and throw them together if they're passionate and determined and smart.
That's what Theta has shown me in just a few short weeks.
Greek life is not just Natty in the basement of a frat house or seemingly perfect blonde girls sporting their letters wherever they go.
It can be those things. And those things aren't inherently bad. Greek life can be educational and professional and enlightening. It can bring people into your life you never know you needed, but you're beyond thankful for.
I'm kicking myself for not doing this sooner, but if I had, I wouldn't be where I am now, with my Theta sisters.
Why walk alone when you can fly together?
