With it being officially announced that Colby Covington will not be facing Tyron Woodley, Woodley has another contender in his cross-hairs who is aiming to take his belt. The challenger is the undefeated #2 contender in the welterweight division, Liverpool's Darren Till. As it took everyone by surprise after everything that was said Colby would not be fighting Tyron for the belt it was satisfying to know who in fact the next contender was and it is worth the dismissal of Woodley vs. Covington. After everything that was said all of the callouts and disrespect sent towards Woodley, the fight will not be happening.
Tyron was looking forward to the bout with Covington also but has now shifted his focus elsewhere as Till is someone that can stand with Woodley on the feet all 5 rounds. It has been a while since we seen Tyron in action as he got shoulder surgery after his last defense at UFC 214 back in July of 2017, The last opponent he faced was Demian Maia who he defeated by unanimous decision with no problem.
Since winning his Welterweight Championship at UFC 201, Woodley has successfully defended the belt 3 times including his bout with Maia. He also defended his belt again Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson twice with 1 fight ending in a draw, and the other Tyron won on the judges' scorecards.
Now with the champ being fully healed and ready to step back into the octagon, it will be nice to see his return. But many people may say his next challenger is his hardest challenge to date. Darren Till is currently undefeated in the UFC and is not looking to stop anytime soon. Till said himself he is the best striker in the welterweight division and no one could stand with him.
In his most recent bout, Darren Till defeated Stephen Thompson in a very close fight via Unanimous Decision. Since entering the UFC Till is undefeated in 6 fights with one of those fights against Nicolas Alby being ruled a Draw. He also won 2 of those fights via KO/TKO with one of those TKO's being against "Cowboy" Donald Cerrone when he shattered his nose in the very 1st round.
Though in his post-fight interview after the judges' decision Darren said that he did not deserve a title shot because he missed weight and needs to clean out the rest of the division before he faced Tyron that is not the case. Darren will be next to face the champion who has been very successful at defending his belt.
A win for Tyron Woodley would just add another win into his column and add another successful title defense to his resume. But it could potentially set him up to be a part of a Super Fight with the Middleweight Champion with Robert Whittaker with the way Super Fights are happening in the UFC
A win for Darren Till would push his undefeated record to 18-0 and join Khabib Nurmagomedov s one of the undefeated champions in the UFC which would be well deserved for the gorilla
