At UFC 228 the stage was set, Darren Till made his walk to the octagon with a roaring ovation. The arena gets dark and Tyron Woodley the UFC Welterweight Champion makes his walk to the octagon with mixed reactions. Bruce Buffer makes the electric introductions and the fighters touch gloves. It is a slow first round as no real damage was done on either side. Tyron and Darren were just testing the waters, but you can clearly see that this is a different Tyron Woodley. The 1st round ends, and the crowd slowly begins to cheer for the UFC Welterweight Champion.
The 2nd round begins as Darren Till plans to start exchanging more trying to land some shots on the welterweight champ. Tyron reads the punch coming moves back to evade the strike and throws a punch that knocks down the undefeated Darren Till. "The Chosen One" Tyron Woodley jumps on Till landing brutal punches and elbows will on the ground but Darren is surviving. He refused to give up and be put away, but then Tyron locks in a D'arce Choke that is really tight as Till tries to squirm his way out of it. A few more seconds go by, and the undefeated Darren Till submits, the fight is over. After this performance, Tyron received his Black Belt along with his Welterweight Championship which is a huge accomplishment.
With a dominating performance and successful title defense, everyone immediately thought of the potential fight between Tyron Woodley and the Former-Interim Champion Colby "Chaos" Covington, especially since UFC 230 still does not have a main event still for that night. The grudge match continues to boil over as it has the potential to be one of the biggest grudge matches of the year right along with Conor Mcgregor vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov which is happening October 6th.
Covington continues to voice his opinion on how he is the real Welterweight Champion in the UFC as the match between Till and Woodley was a number one contender fight in his opinion. He also expressed that he would like to finally step in the octagon with Tyron at Madison Square Garden. During the Press Conference after the UFC 228 event "The Chosen One" Tyron Woodley also expressed some interest into finally meeting Colby Covington and shutting him down because it was originally Colby who was supposed to fight Tyron, not Darren Till. But due to a medical issue with breathing and sinus issue Colby did not accept the fight immediately he wanted to wait a month.
It looks like nothing will be in the way now of the huge fight between Colby and Tyron unless of course Tyron holds off and waits for a super fight to be made which is most likely not going to happen. It would be an amazing way to close out the night at Madison Square Garden in New York if they 2 top contenders finally meet on a card that is still rumored to potentially have the return of Jon "Bones" Jones.
