Guess what day it is! No, it's not Hump Day, that would be tomorrow.

But nope! it is Valentines Day!

Another day of the week, but filled with more candy, gushing romances blossoming and all the roses to smell and see from every street corner! An interesting day no less, but considering to me it is just another Tuesday and my beloved is working several thousand miles away, I am taking this opportunity to tell you single guys and gals who may be sad or distraught on this day, I feel your pain.

Before my boyfriend several years ago and today, I don't have a significant other to celebrate with, but if you are one of those people who does enjoy Valentine's Day or not, here are a few things to fight off those blues and maybe make your day just about loving YOU.

1. Sleeping In.

If you have the opportunity after working a night shift and have the day to yourself or have classes, take this chance to treat yourself to some cuddles with your pillow and those soft blankets you just washed. Maybe you don't have the opportunity to sleep in, but take a nap and just say that treating yourself is good once in a while. This is just in general, and during these winter days that still may seem dreary and long, you need beauty sleep and some time away from those books or just to celebrate after a long day of work.

2. Go Window Shopping.

Or you can go in and buy that video game you have been wanting, go get that candy bar. Whatever you want for just being YOU. Sometimes, we overwork ourselves and think we have to try harder in order for us to be more successful. But that drains energy real quick and then we don't leave enough time to treat ourselves. It's not a bad thing to buy makeup or something for yourself once in a while.

3. Get some grub.

Literally, take Pumba's advice (minus eating bugs from under a log). If I wasn't working till late at night, I would be tossing it up and getting Olive Garden for one. But the point is, get a treat. It doesn't have to be expensive or fancy. Heck, makes a McDonald's date, get some fries and watch Supernatural for all I care. Just keep being YOU.

4. Take a Drive.

This always helps me after a long day, or I just need to think about something that may weigh heavily on my mind. If you just want to drive, listen to some of your jams, then my dear, you go for it! Valentine's Day or not, again, you need time for youself. Recharge after dealing with a bad day. Going back to my third point, get some food on the way back...

5. Just keep being YOU.

I could go on forever on how much you should just stay you, and give you thousands of ways to treat yourself, big or small. Just keep swimming. I wish I had my guy here too, but just treating yourself to those little things can make you feel better. Up here in Northern Minnesota, we still have ice rinks and snow to deal with, so instead of focusing on the negative, focus on the positive on this beautiful Tuesday morning!

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
