A Typical College Class As Told By The Cast Of Mean Girls

Classes in college are just like classes in high school, except they can last anywhere from 50 minutes to 4 hours, and participation is actually worth like 25% of your grade. Some classes are interesting, since they are geared toward your major, but others are rather boring and require more effort than you are willing to put in. Either way, I think most people can picture themselves thinking these thoughts while they sit in class, ponder life and try their best to make it until the end.

1. Wow that was a total guess I can't believe that's the right answer.

Off to a good start; look at me gooooo.

2. *Looks at the clock*

Oh no, did the professor catch me?

3. "Did you do the reading last night?"

I really tried.

4. "Did you come prepared to discuss the reading from last night?"

I'm sorry, did you say discussion? I was feeling more like a lecture today.

5. "Did you understand the reading even a little bit?"

Negative. It was basically rocket science.

6. "How did you feel about the author's prediction on the future of our country?"

Total guess; but usually right. Our future is usually seen as doomed after all.

7. I want food.

27 minutes and 49 seconds until I can go get something for lunch.

8. I can't wait for the weekend.

Let's just fast-forward through this week.

9. Oh this lecture is actually pretty cool.

Okay yes totally feeling this, keep it up.

10. Can we end class early?

But last class you promisedddddd.

11. *Whispers to friend* what did she just say?

Never good when we both miss something.

12. Does anyone know the date?

Even if it's not; it is.

13. "What were the causes of the Civil War?"

It probably looked something like this.

14. Is the professor trying to be funny?

I honestly can't tell if that was a joke. Based on the confused looks around the room I don't think anyone else found it funny either.

15. "The deadline has been extended."

The best news to brighten any day.

16. "What trends do you notice during this time period?"

That's the only trend I'm worried about.

17. "Can anyone find textual evidence?"

It's just there. Oh, find relevant evidence? You're on your own for this one.

18. Is our test on Tuesday?

God I hope not.

19. I'm so done with this omg.

Why did I even register for this class?

20. Finally class is over; time to dominate the world.

Check that off my list. Let's goooooo.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
