Holidays bring out the best and worst in people. Looking at the different characters sitting around your Thanksgiving feast with you can be a very fun experience. Below, I have listed some of the people you might find surrounding you during this celebration.
The Holiday Enthusiast
This is the person that has a thanksgiving themed outfit, decorated their house, and can't stop talking about how much they love Thanksgiving. They are a very uplifting person that is sure to make the holiday fun.
The Christmas Junkie
This person couldn't care less about Thanksgiving. Christmas is their holiday and they can't wait. They are blasting Christmas music from November 1st -if they waited that long- and on. They have already started decorating and buying Christmas presents. Don't even get them started on Christmas movies. They might single handedly keep freeform and hallmark in business.
The Endless Pit
This is the person that's really just there for the food. First in line when food is set out and they are finally allowed to eat it (even though they have probably already snuck a few bites), you are likely to find this person getting more food at any given point during the meal. Their version of helping clean up after dinner is finishing up some of the dishes.
The Napper
This is the person that disappears or is sitting on the couch talking with everyone one minute and asleep the next. You are likely to get some very funny pictures of this person over the years.
The Poker
This is the person that brings up religion and politics just to see what they can stir up. They know what to say to get a heated discussion going and then sit back and enjoy watching the fire they started engulf their family. Don't poke the bear. Don't be this person.
The Idiot
The pokers biggest ally. This is the family member that is racist, sexist, homophobic, or misogynistic. They make a comment regarding whatever the poker brought up and the whole family feels the need to correct them, for good reason.
The Quiet One
This person sits quietly observing their family's interactions and occasionally adds a well thought out comment or two. Often seen as disengaged, this persons mind is most likely racing analyzing their situation, responding and reacting to the topics of discussion, reminiscing, and thinking about the future.
The Bragging One
Every family has one person that either brags about all of their own or someone else in the family's accomplishments. Generally a mother or grandparent about their child or grandchild.
The Secretly Really Cool One
This is the person that has a really interesting job, works or is friends with cool people, or goes on amazing adventures. This person is never boring to talk to as they have so many stories to share.
Your family may have all or none of these characters. People are multidimensional beings and therefore may fall under multiple categories. I like to think of myself as a combination of quite a few of these and know that almost everyone in my family can fall under at least two categories.
