We all have reasons that we choose to travel. One of the best parts about going abroad is meeting other people from around the world and learning what brought you to the same place. There are a variety of people that one may come across while traveling abroad. You may run into…
The ones running away from something
Maybe they had a bad break up that prompted them to literally pick up and move to the other side of the world, or maybe they’re trying to pull a fast one on the government and not pay student loans. Regardless, they are still a pleasure to be around. They know that the only way to go is forward.
The ones that cannot stay in one place
These are the ones that are “wanderlust”. They get a taste of new cultures and their head fills of all the adventures waiting out there. Hearing them speak of their journeys around the world cannot help but inspire you. They know that there is still so much to learn about the world.
The ones working their first job
Typically you will run into teachers, but it is not always the case! These people know that they can make an impact on the world, but also are ready for the world to help shape them.
The ones that are hopelessly homesick
These poor travelers expected to leave their country and have the time of their lives, only to realize how much they actually love home. Maybe they decided to move for a fresh start, or maybe they took a job offer of their dreams. They teach us to be careful what we wish for.
The ones who are backpacking around the world
Typically, this is either a single person or a couple that is ready to take on the challenges of the world together. They know that it is now or never to go out and see the world. Maybe it’ll last for a month or maybe they’ll never settle down again. Regardless, they understand that if you want to do something then you have to go for it.
The ones who are entrepreneurs
These people know that to make their vision happen, they have to go big or go home. They have dedicated much of the time to something they believe in and are determined to see it through. These are the ones you should keep an eye on, they’ll be big one day.
The ones who think they’ll get lucky
As my wonderful friend Dan stated it, these people have a “I’m here because women from this country love foreign guys” mentality. They may not be the most pleasant person to meet while traveling, but at least it helps you remember to not blindly trust strangers.
The ones who are finally retiring
They have literally been there and done that. They’re more than happy to sit and chat and give you advice on your life. Always stop and chat with the retirees, they are always lovely and are usually more than happy to host you.
The ones who are musicians making a name for themselves
They are following their dreams and playing whenever and wherever they possibly can. They tend to have the coolest stories out of everyone that you may encounter.
The ones who are always looking for a party
They love the thrill of the nightlife. They know all the cool local bars and clubs. They remind us to not take our travels too seriously.
With each person, comes a lesson and a lifetime of memories.
