Two Weeks, 14 Hours Of Social Media

A break from the biggest waste of time.

Two Weeks, 14 Hours Of Social Media
Social Media Stategies Summit

Recently I went two weeks with only being on social media for one hour at a time. The social media I restricted myself from were Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and sometimes Snapchat. I began the two weeks not including snapchat because I typically use it as a way to communicate with my close friends, but as time went on I realized I needed to add it to my time. I tracked my time using the timer app on my iphone, every time I was about to get on social media, I would simply just start the timer and get on social media. I realized that the more time I spent off my phone, the more time I had for other things such as homework. The two weeks I went with less social media were the most school-productive weeks I have had during all of the years I have been in school. I started to observe more around me, and I learned a lot about my friends. Some of my extra time was used on looking up random things on pinterest, but hey Halloween is coming up and I needed costume ideas.

Throughout the days I would get a little frustrated because I tended to forget to start the timer. And being a perfectionist also, I would be extremely hard on myself every time I messed up. This definitely added to my stress and anxiety, but honestly I believe that if I stuck to for a year, there would be massive improvements in those areas. I recommend anyone frustrated with their time management skills to take a little break from it, and maybe even go two-weeks with no social media.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.
