Within the past two months of being in school, my friends and I have done some not so typical college things. Here are possibly the top five weirdest things we have ever done; perhaps the weirdest things anyone's ever done at school.
1. We offered people a frog.
One night, two of my friends and I were walking home from the gym. We saw a figure out of the corner of our eye's and walked over to see what it was. After discovering that it was a frog, I called my roommate and told her to get an old cardboard box ready, and to poke holes in it. Sneaking him past security was no problem, and once in the dorm room, we let him loose. After a while of hopping around, we put him in the box constructed for him. Then, we walked around four floors knocking on random doors and asked "do you want a frog?" The consensus of this question was that no one wanted a frog. For a month we were known as the "frog girls."
2. We ordered a cardboard cutout of the pope.
The catholic church on campus has a cardboard cutout of Pope Benedict. One day, I asked the security guard on shift in my building at the time how much trouble someone would get in if they were to borrow it for a little while. After contemplating the idea, my friends and I decided not to borrow the Pope from the church. Instead, I went online and ordered my own cardboard cutout of the past Pope. About four weeks and forty dollars later (sorry Mom), he had arrived. We decorate the Pope with various new things each week. This week, he has a baseball hat and sunglasses on, and flowers in his hand. Depending on the security guard in the building, he also makes guest appearances behind the security counter and welcomes everybody that comes in. Usually, the reaction of others consists of a laugh or a really confused look and they move on with their day. I advise everyone to get a cardboard cutout of someone in their lifetime. Though my advice to you is place whoever you buy on the ground at night because a figure standing in the middle of your room is kind of creepy.
3. We decided to get pierced.
It was a typical Friday night, and all of us had met at one of the dining halls to have dinner. It was around 5 o'clock and we were brainstorming what our plans were going to be. Someone said "let's go get pierced!" With that, we finished off our dinner and headed to the piercing place. As we walked in, the bell above the door rang. Five girls piled in to the shop that smelled of faint cigarettes, and had ear figurines all over. After looking at all of the options they had, my friend Allura and I decided to get cartilage piercings. We asked the man who worked there about forty questions, all in southern accents, I couldn't tell you why we talk in southern accents, sometimes it just happens.
4. We go on lots of adventures at midnight.
Here at BSU, not much goes on. Most people leave on the weekends, leaving little to do for the people who stay. My relatives have said, "you have to make your own fun," so that's what we decided to do. Late night adventures consist of fast-food runs, exploring in the "Bridgewater triangle," which is supposedly haunted, and various other things. Sometimes we go on walks around campus and run through sprinklers. Other times, we take a soccer ball and play into the night. Just so you know, Burger King will not take your order through the drive-thru if you aren't in a car unfortunately, I've learned that the hard way.
5. We get spoken to for the things we do at 8 PM.
Quiet hours on weeknights are after 9 PM, but courtesy hours are all the time. There have been many, many times where we are spoken to for being too loud. Sometimes it's from the neighbors, an R.A. or the senior R.A., but most of the time it's just the neighbors. One night we decided to play hide n' seek because like I said, you have to make your own fun. There were four of us playing; two people on each team. We sprinted through the halls around seven PM. Let's just say people didn't appreciate the yelling that goes along with this game, so it didn't last long. On Halloween night around 8:30, after trick-or-treating, we were auctioning off candy. If you have ever seen an auction, you'd know it's pretty intense and a bit rowdy. Kit-Kats were the big prize that night, and Whoppers were the big loser. After arguing for about five minutes, an R.A. knocked on our door and told us to quiet down. The door accidentally slams a lot as well, I'm quite surprised we haven't been kicked out yet honestly.
As you can see, my friends and I have a lot of fun here at BSU. If you ever want to play soccer at midnight, take a picture with the pope in sunglasses, run through some sprinklers in 40 degree weather, or play hide n' seek you can find us here and we'll definitely be up for it.
