Twitter Celebrated 10 Years Of ... Being Twitter!

It has been a decade since Twitter began from its roots, over the years millions of users have chosen to use Twitter for both social and professional use and have sent out millions of tweets.

It is crazy for some to remember a world without technology and, more specifically, without Twitter and its 140-character limit for tweets. It is strange to think that the words “tweet,” “Twitter,” “follow,” “retweet,” and many other phrased weren’t in existence before 2006. So, in light of Twitter celebrating its 10 year anniversary, I decided to compile a list of 10 fun facts about Twitter!

1. Around 347,000 tweets are sent out on Twitter every single minute.

2. Twitter co-founder Noah Glass got ousted from the company around the start of Twitter.

3. You can find your first ever tweet at FirstTweets.com!

4. The real definition of the word Twitter is “a short burst of inconsequential information to utter in chirps.”

5. Katy Perry has the most Twitter followers – around 85 million of them.

6. The Twitter bird has a name. His name is Larry and he was named after sports legend Larry Bird.

7. The story behind Twitter is being turned into a TV show.

8. Twitter was almost called “Friendstalker” (kind of ironic, haha).

9. Ending a tweet with an empty hashtag is called a hangtag.

10. The 140-character limit almost got changed to 1000, but founder Jack Dorsey said that Twitter would lose its feeling if it was changed.

Twitter has had its ups and downs, and good and bad moments, but cheers to another decade of Twitter … well, just being Twitter!

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that.
