Twenty One Pilots kicked off the second leg of their Emotional Roadshow tour in January, closing out the Blurryface era with guests Judah and the Lion and Jon Bellion. They played the sold out BJCC Arena in Birmingham, Alabama February 24th, and I was lucky enough to witness one of their last shows of the tour. After seeing them close the first night of Music Midtown in 2016, I knew what to expect during the show, but seeing them on their own tour is completely different than their festival sets.
Judah and the Lion
Judah and the Lion's set was incredible. They kicked off with their new single "Suit and Jacket" and led up to their most popular song "Take It All Back" to close the set. They later came back onstage during Twenty One Pilots to sing a few covers.
Jon Bellion
Jon opened up his set with "He is the Same" and went on to sing "All Time Low" and his other hit songs. His set was full of heavy drums and old hip hop vibes. Bellion closed his set with "New York Soul, Pt. II" and also came back on stage with Judah and Twenty One Pilots.
Twenty One Pilots
After building up their intro music for 30 minutes, Twenty One Pilots finally came on stage and opened with their latest single "Heavydirtysoul". They went on to perform more crowd favorites and were even more energetic than I'd remembered. From the crowd holding Tyler up in "Holding Onto You" to Josh's drum surfing to the hamster ball, the pit was insanely energetic. Twenty One Pilots brought Judah and Jon back onstage to do covers of "No Diggity", "Jump Around", "Tubthumping" and "Where Is the Love". They closed their set with an encore featuring "Goner" and "Trees".
If you ever get the chance to catch Twenty One Pilots on their own tour or a festival, grab tickets while you can because their shows are unlike any other.
