Return of Kings

Life in your twenties is a hectic yet amazing roller coaster. You have huge milestones to pass and a lot of growing to do. It's a time for it to be acceptable to not have it all together. Know that you are not alone on this crazy, wonderful stage in life my fellow twenty-something. Here's to us not having it together and why it is completely okay.

1. Not having a plan can be the best thing to happen to you.

There is no specific route that you need to follow in life and that is what makes it beautiful. Sometimes twenty-somethings are looked down upon if we do not have a set plan, but sometimes plans just take a little more time to prepare. Everything you do will lead to something amazing where you are meant to be. You will be happy in the end.

2. You are not what people think you are.

Some people will have a mental image of twenty somethings sitting at home and watching Grey's Anatomy on Netflix all day. Maybe we do from time to time, but it's not what defines us. We are an ambitious generation thirsty for change and fueled by coffee. We go to school or work and give it everything we have. We rally to support our favorite cause. We are more accepting of other people even though they are different than us. Taking all things into consideration, we deserve that Netflix break or that night at a bar.

3. Travel

Not necessarily being tied down to anything allows you to have the freedom to travel at any time you want. You have no family to take into consideration and may not have a job you necessarily enjoy back at home that keeps you bound to one certain place. This allows you to get out and explore the world around us. Experience new cultures, new people, new food, and live.

4. You know what you like and what you don't like by this age.

It is apparent what you do like in a person and what you do not like in a person. You know your limits and capabilities. At this stage your comfort zone is pretty well-defined with people, places, and new things. You are probably more confident in yourself compared to a few years ago which makes making decisions a bit easier.

5. The job you have now is not your future career.

Working somewhere that you do not want to does not mean that is what you will have for the rest of your life. Through that job you will learn how to deal with people, gain experience, and learn something new to get to your end goal. You'll work in terrible places but that's not really a bad thing. Work hard to get where you want to be or someone will get there first.

6. We still have our youth.

This one is the most important. If you do not have a significant other, a path to follow, or a general direction of what to do at all, this means less stress and responsibilities. Who would not want that? Live life while you are young and free because that is what life is all about. That is the secret.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
