Twas the week before leaving, when all through the house,
My parents were worried, they wanted to shout.
The luggage was packed and folded with care,
In hopes that my clothing would all arrive there.
The ticket was bought, the textbooks were read,
While visions of ramen popped up in my head.
All ready to study abroad in a snap,
And hoping the plane doesn't have a mishap.
When at the front door there arose a loud knock,
I sprang from the bed from such a big shock.
Away to the door I flew like a flash,
My visa was here, finally, at last.
With the light shining down to my visa in hand,
I'm actually leaving to a far away land.
And what to my wonder, which land could it be?
The country where everyone speaks Japanese.
Now excited to meet my host family in days,
Yet worried if we don't get along straight away.
I'm sad that I will be living so far from home,
But new friends will keep me from feeling alone.
So many emotion have piled up inside,
With only a week until the final goodbye.
To all of my close family and friends,
I'll see you soon, when my study abroad ends.
