In my opinion, the best character archetype on TV is the comedic relief, otherwise known as the sarcastic sidekick. Their quick one-liners keep everyone on their toes. Whether the comment is snarky, cynical, or just dumb, we love to hear them. If we're being honest, the main characters might pull you in, but it's these characters that keep you coming back for more. Here are a few crowd favorites.
Chandler Bing from "Friends"
This list would not be complete without Chandler Bing. He is the number one person who comes to mind when you think of sarcastic characters and it's for good reasons. There are rarely scenes without his quick wit and we can all relate to the joy that he gets from mocking his friends.
Seth Cohen from "The O.C."
He might just be the comic relief, but he is the real reason to watch the show.
Stiles Stilinski from "Teen Wolf"
As the resident mortal, Stiles has only one defense. Yet, he's still on the show, so he must be doing something right.
Nick Miller from "New Girl"
Nick's sarcasm is a little more cynical, but it makes him even more lovable.
Jim Halpert from "The Office"
Jim never fails to disappoint in his sarcastic comments, which Michael and Dwight don't pick up on, or his blatant mockery of Dwight.
Shawn Spencer from "Psych"
One of the most quick-witted characters on TV, Shawn Spencer says some of the dumbest, but most hilariously delivered lines.
Liz Lemon from "30 Rock"
Most of the time, she says what we're all thinking. Fortunately, she delivers it much better than we would.
Chuck Bass from "Gossip Girl"
Chuck Bass's humor is, admittedly, more snarky than it is sarcastic, but it keeps the show interesting as he shuts down everyone around him.
Paris Geller from "Gilmore Girls"
Another one who employs humor with a bite to it, Paris' blunt and hilarious comments often speak to what everyone thinks, but doesn't say out loud.
To these characters and many more, we're glad that you're here. You make us feel a little better about those snarky comments that we think in our heads and try not to say out loud. For those of us who do say them out loud, you remind us that we are actually hilarious and that it's okay that not everyone laughs.
