There is a time in every young girl’s life that we admire a certain TV character. We were inspired to be like them. We wanted everything they had; hair, make up, wardrobe, friends, boyfriends and yes we technically wanted their life. We looked up to these characters that made us buy any merchandise that had their face on it. The 2000s brought us a decade of young female empowerment and we wanted to be part of it.
Kim Possible, “Kim Possible”
Kim was our favorite heroine. She could do everything! She would manage to fight crimes, be a student along with being the captain of the cheerleading squad. We would say to ourselves, “If Kim can do it, I can do it!”
Lizzie McGuire, “Lizzie McGuire”
We could relate to Lizzie; her life was as awkward as our middle school years. We followed Lizzie and her clumsiness as she tried to be popular and capture Ethan Craft’s heart. Not only could we relate to Lizzie but a part of us wanted a tiny cartoon alter ego saying what we really think about certain situations. Lizzie taught us how to be a loyal friend and that it’s okay if things don’t work out as we planned.
Raven Baxter, “That’s So Raven”
The fashion, the sassiness, the determination and of course the psychic visions, these were some of the things we wish we had. We would’ve loved to be able to see the future. It was one of the things that identified the character of Raven the most. Raven was one of the original fangirls, remember Boys ‘N Motion? Not only did Raven give us the 101 of how to be a fangirl, she also gave us the confidence to accept who we are.
Gabriella Montez, “High School Musical”
Troy Bolton, enough said. Just kidding! The cutest boy in high school had a crush on her and she was awarded with a killer singing voice. When any "High School Musical" song came on we would lip sync her parts and pretend we were her.
Zoey Brooks, “Zoey 101”
The true friend we all wanted, that was Zoey. She would always stick up for her friends, especially her little brother, Dustin. We mostly wanted to be her classmate just for a chance to attend Pacific Coast Academy (PCA). Sure, it was a boarding school but it was a boarding school with a game room, movie theater and a Japanese Restaurant!!
Hannah Montana/Miley Stewart, “Hannah Montana”
By day she was a normal teenage girl going through everyday teenage problems. By night she would put on a blond wing and lived the popstar life performing for thousands of people. She had the best of both worlds by somehow handling two different identities. We wanted to know what the famous life was all about, so we always preferred to be more like Hannah.
Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen
The Olsens played many characters, and we mostly wanted to be all of them. We either wanted to be both or be one of them and have a twin sister. They were on TV shows, movies, books, magazines, dolls, well pretty much on every object that exists in the world. These girls made us want to travel the world because they made it look easy to get out of the country at a young age with little adult supervision.
