The possibilities are endless when you live in such a great central location like Tuscaloosa, but we'll give you a few ideas if you don't have any plans to go away yet.

1. Nashville, TN- 3.5 hours

Nashville, Tennessee

Not only the heart of country music, yes that includes our Dixieland Delight, but there is so much to do in Nashville from the Parthenon replica, Grand Ole Opry, and zoo, to the art museums, state parks, and Germantown! Saddle up your horse and throw your best pair of boots on, because Nashville here we come!

2. Orlando, FL- 8.5 hours

Disney World

If you're up for the 8-hour hike, YOU'RE GOING TO DISNEYWORLD! Or Harry Potter world for all you nerds. Orlando has so much to do, and if you feel like making some pit stops, Tallahassee and Jacksonville are on the way!

4. Destin, FL- 4.5 hours

Destin, Florida

Either Destin or Pensacola, FL are perfect beach destinations for a weekend getaway. There's also an aviation museum or a huge water park if the beach doesn't suffice. Sandy cheeks and frisbee are a must.

4. Gulf Shores, AL- 4.5 hours

If you just want to stay in the state of Alabama, because you wouldn't want to be anywhere else, Gulf Shores has a zoo, a state park, and the best for last, putt-putt for DAYS. Oh and don't forget the beach. Home away from home?

5. New Orleans, LA- 4 hours

Party! Party! Even though it's not Mardi Gras, and not LSU gameday weekend, NOLA is a great place if The Strip just isn't enough for you this weekend. From Bourbon Street to Jackson Square, the drive west will be worth it.

6. Other Colleges

Have friends you already miss after 2 weeks away from home that you're dying to see? Now is your time. From FSU to Ole Miss, make the drive to see those faces for a few days. But NEVER forget where you came from; wearing all Bama clothes is highly recommended.

7. Smoky Mountains, TN- 6 hours

Love the outdoors? Go hike the Smoky mountains for a weekend! Ending in the forest and cooking hot dogs on a fire is definitely a much-needed break for some after the dreadful work that comes along with syllabus week.

8. Atlanta, GA- 3 hours

Since the last time in this city was a memorable one for the Tide, *cough Natty Champs cough,* why not make the hike to Atlanta for your weekend? The traffic may be worse than Tuscaloosa on a game day, but once you get in the heart of the city there is a lot of fun things to do like Olympic Park, World of Coke, or just the endless amounts of shopping.

9. Birmingham, AL- 1 hour

Although a lot of students like to come here after class in the evenings or really any weekend, if you just want to ride to Birmingham, you can still have a lot of fun staying close to home.

10. Memphis, TN-3.5 hours

Elvis fan? Civil Rights a big part of your life? Love Rock & Roll? Memphis is the place for you. If you're not interested in all the hustle and bustle of Nashville, this may suit your fancy a little more for the weekend.

Whether it's the beach, city, or just next door, pack your bags and stack up your coolers for THE BEST weekend getaway you can imagine...or just stay in T-town cause you know that's actually just as much fun!

One of my biggest pet peeves is when someone does not try to help their self before asking others. How can someone else be expected to help you if you do not first do that yourself? I'm all about helping those that need it when the time comes, however whenever someone does not even attempt to help him or herself first then that becomes a huge problem. As we all have learned, people tend to take advantage of us in one way or another. I am sure we all read this short story when we were younger and it follows that same principle:
