Here at the University of Alabama, I go to bible study at church almost every Monday night. I honestly know that I learn so much from this time. One thing that has been laid on my heart that I learned from bible study is the fact that we need to turn to God first whenever things start turning bad.
This concept can be very hard. We as humans like to fix things ourselves. We think that we do not need help from anyone or anything. We feel that we are strong enough to handle really any problems on our own. The other issue may be that we get upset with God because we may blame Him for the situation that we are in at the moment. So, we decide that we do not need to turn to God. The truth is that turning to God is the only way to fix our problems.
Did you notice how I have said “turn to God FIRST?” That being said maybe we do decide to turn to God, but only when the situation has gotten way too out of control. Then, we cry out to God. I believe that the first signs of trouble should make us want to turn to the only one who has the power to make things better. No, I am not saying that when you fall and scrape your knee that you need to automatically stop and pray. Is that a bad thing? No! I also am not saying that God will not help you if you do not turn to Him first. Our God is a loving God who wants to help His children when they are hurting and upset and in trouble. He wants to be there for us. He will be there for us through it all. But, you need to turn to Him. Yes, He knows everything, but He wants to hear from His children. He wants to hear what you are struggling with from you.
So, shouldn’t our first cry in times of trouble be to the only one who can help us and be there for us always? You make that choice for yourself, but I am going with yes, we should.
Psalm 55:22 “Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.”
