I think that every person has a point in their lives where they feel consumed by utter darkness. It's a point where your soul is so tired of fighting its battles, and you cannot see a way out. Simply, you're in a cave that does not have an exit. As humans, it's really easy to get lost in this cave and become so "problem-oriented" that we forget that there's a rescue team called Jesus waiting to get us out. For as humans, we cannot exit. Only God can pull us out of the darkness. He's proven to do that all throughout the Bible. For example, when David fled from his son Absalom he cried out:
"Many are saying of me, 'God will not deliver him.' But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the one who lifts my head hight. I call out to the Lord, and he answers me from his holy mountain." (Psalm 3:2-4)
I love how David describes God in this because he makes a point to say that the Lord is a shield. What do shield's do? They protect you. Which is exactly what our God does. And our God remains faithful too. It's not like he's saying in scripture that he's only there for you one time for your life and you have to pick which time that is. In 1 Corinthians 10:13 Paul confirms that
"No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it."
This verse has some truth in that as humans, we're going to be tempted, but not beyond what we can handle. Again, this verse reaffirms that God is our way out of this temptation and darkness. I don't see the scripture saying anything about men being able to provide a way out or survive on their own. Matthew 4:4 says that
"Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.
Again, we really cannot survive on our own. I like moments where the Bible 360 wrecks you, and the realization that we cannot do anything without Christ being our true hope is one of those moments. Even though it doesn't feel like it, you will get out of the cave because
"You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world." (1 John 4:4)
