Recently in Tulsa, OK there was a police shooting that has been all over social media and the news. Terence Crutcher, an African American student at Tulsa Community College had his vehicle stalled in the center lane because it broke down. He refused office Betty Shelby's commands when he stepped out of his vehicle. Not only did he refuse commands, but he was supposedly reaching into his pocket which caused Betty to think he was armed. Another officer was with Betty and tased Terence, but Betty shot him. Personally, I think she she acted too quickly and jumped to conclusions. Betty was charged with manslaughter, but she turned herself in after leaving town due to death threats. Turns out that she was released on a $50,000 bond.

This is something you hear about all over the news. For example, take a look at Charlotte, NC. What's really scary about this shooting here in Tulsa is that it is very close to home. Seeing how Charlotte's community reacted honestly made me worried about how Tulsa was going to react to this police shooting. Of course there's been protesting going on a the Tulsa County Courthouse, but luckily it has been peaceful instead of violent. It makes me sad to see the world turn to violence when there are enough problems going on. I tend to think "why can't we all just love eachother? Why do people turn to violence instead of love?". Fortunately Tulsa gathered around and prayed together. I'm so glad that I can say that. In the midst of hard times, our community prays together, lifts eachother up, and lets God take care of things. I love Tulsa and always will. I pray for the community and Terence's family. Spread love, not hate.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.
