Remember in school when the weeks leading up to Christmas break meant less work, Christmas movies, and holiday parties? Those were the good old days. Unfortunately, college is not like that. As a matter of fact, it's way far from that. Instead, the weeks leading up to Christmas break means mental breakdowns, stacks of papers to write, projects, last minute assignments, mental breakdowns, over exhaustion, overdosing on caffeine and energy drinks, and the worst part of all: exams on top of exams. It's a dreaded time of year that no college student looks forward to. Who better to tell it than the grinch?

1. Approaching the week of finals.

2. Trying to cram a semesters worth of information into your head.

3. When the rest of the world gets to enjoy Christmas but you still need to get through the rest of the semester.

\

4. Trying to spread the Christmas cheer on campus.

5. When you're stressed, tired, broke, failing 8 out of 5 of your classes, and your whole life is falling apart.

6. Stress eating is in over drive.

7. When you're running on 3 hours or sleep for the week and consume so much caffeine to the point where you've lost your mind.

8. When you skip class to catch up on homework assignments.

9. You have zero motivation to leave your bed.

10. You fit nonsense into your schedule so you have a reason to procrastinate.

11. When someone comes in your room while you're busy procrastinating on the studying you should be doing.

12. When you've been living in the library for weeks and your friends ask you to go out.

13. When you have no clean clothes because you haven't done your laundry in weeks.

14. When your professor thinks you're doing the last minute assignment they added on the syllabus.

15. When you've been up all night doing a homework assignment you had all semester to do.

16. When the stress of finals hits you all at once.

17. When your professor says there's going to be a curve on the final exam.

18. Waking up the morning for your first final.

19. When you finish the most mentally painful exam of the semester.

20. Handing in your final that you know you failed with full confidence.

21. When you're not the only one in your class to fail the final.

22. Walking out of the last final of the semester.

23. When you have no more school work to do and life suddenly becomes beautiful again.

24. Looking back on all of those classes that you are not going to miss.

25. Looking back at your grades.

26. When your family asks how your semester went.

27. Throwing away all of your papers.

28. When you finally get to leave campus and celebrate Christmas with your family.

29. ....And you get to see your dog!!

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
