Trying To Disprove The Bible

Is it 100 percent true?

Trying To Disprove The Bible

As a Christian, I believe that the Bible is 100 percent true. I believe it is the word of God and that nothing written in it is a lie or meant to be disregarded as untruthful. And, in order to operate according to God's will, one must believe in the entirety of the Bible and not bits and pieces, here and there.

However, I frequently see posts or quotes that try to "disprove" the Bible or at least claim that it can no longer be true in today's society. For example, the book of Deuteronomy has a lot of rules in it, including the ten commandments. I hold those to be true, as I'm sure a lot of people would. But one rule I often see people, whether Christian or not, pull from the Bible is Deuteronomy 22:11 "You must not wear clothing made of wool and linen woven together."

Whoa! Stop right there. People wear mixed clothing all the time in today's society! So therefore, the Bible must not be true.

It is this reasoning that I have seen numerous times that people are so fixated on, as proof that the Bible is not 100 percent true.

I'm not saying this was not the law back in that time, and yes, I do realize that society has changed. But one cannot take this verse and claim that the Bible is not entirely true.

Fast forward to the New Testament, in Romans 7:4-6 "So, my dear brothers and sisters, this is the point: You died to the power of the law when you died with Christ. And now you are united with the one who was raised from the dead. As a result, we can produce a harvest of good deeds for God. When we were controlled by our old nature, sinful desires were at work within us, and the law aroused these evil desires that produced a harvest of sinful deeds, resulting in death. But now we have been released from the law, for we died to it and are no longer captive to its power. Now we can serve God, not in the old way of obeying the letter of the law, but in the new way of living in the Spirit."

This is a bit of a long passage, but I wanted to make sure you have proper context. The book of Romans is part of the New Testament, shortly after the four gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John). The gospels tell the story of Jesus: his life, death, and resurrection. Deuteronomy is part of the Old Testament, and names a lot of the rules that the people had to live by, before Jesus. Now the people found favor with God by adhering to these rules. And in this passage of Romans, it explains that because of Jesus, we have been released from the law. Now that doesn't mean lying, murder, etc. are now legal. But what it means is that we are not bound to only serve God simply by following the law. Rather, we have new life in Christ Jesus.

So, while Deuteronomy does contain verses with laws that we might find absolutely ridiculous or absurd, that does not mean the Bible is not 100 percent true just as much now as back then. In fact, we should be more thankful that we have a way to serve God by accepting Jesus into our hearts and living through Him. Back then, the law was all the people knew.

But TODAY, in this day and age, in this society: we have a choice. We can choose to believe that the Bible is 100 percent true, and to follow God and have new, eternal life. And that is the most amazing opportunity you could ever have.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
